Hi Neighbors,

With Thanksgiving around the corner, we are once again at the beginning of the holiday season. During this time of year, we gather with our family and friends to reflect on all we are grateful to have in our lives. One thing I am grateful for is the community support we saw in helping make this year's San Jose Veteran's Day Parade possible and I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all our veterans whose courage and sacrifice allow us to enjoy the freedoms we hold dear.

In the spirit of the holidays, I am excited to be hosting a variety of upcoming events. This is my favorite time of year and I welcome you to invite your family, friends, and neighbors to our holiday celebrations! You can stop by for a photo with Santa at the Evergreen Village Square, or enjoy our District 8 Night on the Jingle Bell Stage @ Christmas in the Park. Check out the flyers below for more details.

Additionally, you can join us in embracing the season of giving by donating to our Winter Coat Drive, in partnership with Mary Escobar, the Evergreen School District, and the San Jose Public Library. Find a drop-off location near you by clicking here.

Lastly, as you're shopping for the holidays, I encourage you to support our local businesses. Stop by one of the many District 8 businesses and help invest in our community by shopping locally!

Let's make this holiday season one filled with joy and cheer.

It is my pleasure and privilege to serve as your City Councilmember,

Diwali

Diwali, the festival of lights, symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and the celebration of positive energy.

Public Safety Improvements for the Tully Rd. Business Corridor

I am happy to share that the Tully Road-Eastridge Business Association (TREBA) received funding for public safety improvements and with that funding, they purchased mobile trailer cameras that will aid in crime prevention efforts and serve as a tool for evidence collection.

This is only the beginning as we work towards ensuring the security and well-being of our small business community.

City Hall Update

San José Innovative Project Pathway Program

On November 5th, the City Council unanimously approved the creation of the Pathway Program, a new initiative that I spearheaded in collaboration Mayor Mahan and my fellow Councilmembers. The program aims to streamline the approval process of development projects that deliver exceptional benefits to the City of San José.

Pathway Program should allow for the approval of projects advancing San José’s most pressing goals: Climate and economic resilience, attracting businesses, and producing more homes. In today’s competitive economic climate, this approach helps San José position itself as a leader in urban innovation and fiscal health.

Speed Safety Pilot Program

San José is one of six California cities recently authorized under specific requirements outlined in California Assembly Bill 645 to establish and operate a Speed Safety System Pilot Program.

The introduction of speed cameras through the pilot program will play a crucial role in addressing traffic safety issues by automatically detecting and issuing citations for speeding vehicles, thereby promoting safer driving behaviors and protecting the lives of all who use City roadways.

The final selection of the 33 speed safety system locations will aim for a balanced distribution across the City’s socioeconomically diverse communities while prioritizing areas with high rates of fatal and severe injury crashes related to speeding.

Tully Road-Eastridge Business Improvement District

On November 5th, City Council unanimously approved the ordinance establishing the Tully Road-Eastridge Business Improvement District (TREBID).

A Business Improvement District allows for the creation of a special assessment district where business owners can organize to raise funds within their designated geographic boundaries for the exclusive purpose of improving the business district. Eligible use of funds include investment in public safety, cleanliness, marketing, and urban design among other quality-of-life improvements for customers and businesses.
