Why I Love Soccer
by Julian Sieger

I love soccer because I was born to do it. I know this because I’ve been playing since before I was 3 years old and I can’t imagine my life without soccer. I love being part of a team. It's fun to travel for games, tournaments and camps. Scoring goals is awesome. I like meeting new people and I love to learn new skills. And the bonuses are it's fun, it's good for your body and your mind. I love soccer because it’s just an amazing sport. It shows your weaknesses and your strengths. Watching professionals on tv makes me like soccer even more and makes me want to try harder. I think a lot of people would be good at soccer too, if you don't already play, maybe you should try!

RRDSC Coaches taking the Changing the Game Project Warriors not Winners Course
Great teams and elite athletes are outcome aware, but purpose and process driven. This course by Coach Reed Maltbie is based on one of our most requested talks, "Warriors, Not Winners." Great teams are outcome aware, but purpose and process driven. In this course, Coach Reed outlines five psychological tools that you can use to build resilient, gritty competitors who focus on the process of getting better. He shares research and examples from some of the world's best teams and provides coaches with a pathway to excellence for their athletes, teams and programs, so that next season can be your best ever.

S.M.A.R.T. Goals Setting Principles
Last season RRDSC Coaches went over goal setting with your player at practice. We use a goal setting worksheet called S.M.A.R.T (specific, measurable, adaptable & attainable, realistic, time based). Revisit your player's spring goals!

It's a very good idea to set goals with athletes of any age. Goal-setting helps improve athletes' motivation and commitment, helps them stay focus on what to accomplish, helps them asses strengths and weaknesses, as well as track their performance and improvement during a season. This is also a great tool for parents to get on the same page with their player in regards to what their goals are for sport and school.

DYSA is a member club of the United Soccer Coaches, formerly known as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The goal of our membership with the USCC is to support our coaches and to promote coach development. Click to read the  member benefits .

Dogs are not allowed on any of the field venues and surrounding properties. This is part of our agreement with the City of Durango and School District 9R. If you have a dog with you at any practice, game or tournament, you will be asked to leave. The Field Marshall can take whatever action is necessary to have the dog removed from the property.
