"Let us play" Program
At the Rio Rapids Soccer Club, we feel we have some of the best spectators in the state and in the country. But, we want to make it better. Soccer is a player’s game. Players need to be given the freedom to make decisions on their own without the fear of failure. Instruction from the sideline as well as interference in the referee/player/coach dynamics can affect and influence the game; but more importantly, the development of players.

Player Exit Standards
In the Fall of 2014 RRDSC began using age specific Player Standards to better break down the process of player development. Player Standards are a great way to encourage players to work on their game and letting the player know what they need to learn to go to the next level. It is also meant to get the kids to understand what they have to do when they come to practice AND what they need to keep doing away from practice on their own. Youth soccer is entirely about the development of the whole player, therefore, it is the aim of RRDSC to foster player growth through age appropriate standards while gaining comprehensive tactical and technical skills required to play in all positions and facets of the game.

Why I Love Soccer
by Amelia Z. Scott

Soccer has always been my favorite sport. I have played since I was in first grade and I still love it now. All of my teams have been considerate, passionate, and caring. I think that is a main reason why I still love soccer today, because of all the encouragement, teammates, and coaches. Soccer is the greatest team sport, and it is a great way to be active. When we had our first practice yesterday, what excited me was trying to challenge myself and seeing my friends. I love to be with my teammates, and most of the time, we now hang out outside of practice. All because this wonderful sport, soccer, brought us all together. We love to cheer for each other and support each other. My coaches have always challenged me, and I love that almost as much as my team. I like to hear a coach say that I should amp up my foot work speed, and when I hear that, I go home and practice until I’m faster. I love to take up a challenge. These reasons are why I love soccer !

  1. Everybody works together, supports each other, and keeps a positive outlook.
  2. Everybody participates in fund raising and helping with team responsibilities. The more parents get involved, the stronger our team.
  3. To quote the lottery, “you can’t win if you don’t play”. Make sure your player is where they need to be and arrives on time. Most everybody is more than willing to help with rides and carpooling when needed.
  4. Make every effort to avoid scheduling family activities, doctor appointments, etc. during practice or game times.
  5. Avoid gossip and keep your opinions about players under wraps.
  6. If your player is having a rough time, ill, or under stress for some reason, please let Coach know.
  7. Encourage proper nutrition in general, and especially before athletic events.
  8. Encourage adequate sleep. Most kids this age need more than 8 hours a night.
  9. Get to know other parents as it will create a positive atmosphere
  10. Remember to have some fun and keep things in perspective.
