Confidence is a Feeling, Competence is a Behavior by John O'Sullivan
Rio Rapids Alliance Q&A
Dear RRDSC Members,

Things are underway for the Fall 2022 season! What a fun way to jump start the season with the Rio Rapids Durango Soccer Club (RRDSC) Day at the Fort Lewis College Soccer Alumni games. The kids got to experience the new outdoor 4v4 turf arena while supporting the FLC soccer programs. The atmosphere was energized! We are grateful for our partnership with FLC soccer. Our collaboration with FLC continues to open up avenues for our club players!

We made a strong effort to get our Soccer, Service & Socks program up and running again. Partnering with Bronson Family McDonalds the program's goal is to support Durango School District 9R prepare school grounds for the year by spreading cedar chips, pulling weeds, picking up trash, and other various projects. Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not cooperate and we were rained out. Serving the community is an important aspect of our club culture and we will continue to look for service opportunities.

One way we are supporting our community is by working with Big Brothers & Big Sisters of the Southwest and their Sports Buddies Program. This program is designed to match young people with a positive role model, and engage in fun, easy soccer clinics. RRDSC and FLC student-athletes will organize and run the soccer clinics. Along with this, RRDSC is making a strong push for our teams to do service projects again. As part of our Go Out And Lead (GOAL) program, each team is asked to due one service project a season. Stay tuned, as we will highlight some of the creative ways our teams choose to give back to our community.

We are excited for teams to kick off league this upcoming Saturday with both Four Corners and Duke City League play. As we move further into the Fall season keep an eye out for Goalkeeper training and extra opportunities for your player to have touches on the ball. We are proud that RRDSC was honored again and chosen to be the host site for the Colorado Soccer Association Cup (October 22-23). This local tournament is a great way to play games at home and bring people to our town.

RRDSC is looking forward to great Fall Season.

See you out on the fields!

CALL FOR REFEREES!
There is a shortage of referees across the nation!! Please help us build our local pool by getting certified. With two local tournaments we need more referees to cover games. If interested and willing please contact Kevin Aten, our Director of Referees, at [email protected]
RRDSC Player Exit Standards
In the Fall of 2014 RRDSC began using age specific Player Standards to better break down the process of player development. Player Standards are a great way to encourage players to work on their game and letting the player know what they need to learn to go to the next level. It is also meant to get the kids to understand what they have to do when they come to practice AND what they need to keep doing away from practice on their own. Youth soccer is entirely about the development of the whole player, therefore, it is the aim of RRDSC to foster player growth through age appropriate standards while gaining comprehensive tactical and technical skills required to play in all positions and facets of the game.

Please take moment to review the Player Exit Standards
RRDSC is expanding coaching opportunities, hiring across all levels of the Club!

We are excited for the 2022 CSA Cup Durango Soccer Tournament!

Confidence is a Feeling, Competence is a Behavior
BY JOHN O'SULLIVAN /  TUESDAY, 24 MAY 2022 /  PUBLISHED IN CONFIDENCESPORT PSYCHOLOGYSPORTS PARENTING

We have all seen the interview many times. The star athlete comes off the field or court, and the first question the interviewer asks is “You were looking really confident out there today, what was your secret?” We might even say the same thing to our own young athletes that we coach and mentor: “Wow, you were playing with so much confidence today, well done!’

But is that the case? Can we really see confidence? Can we read minds? Or as Jonah Oliver, one of the world’s top performance psychologists told me on a recent episode of the Way of Champions Podcast, “What looks like confidence or is called confidence is actually competence. Confidence is a feeling, competence is a behavior.”

NO DOGS
Dogs are not allowed on any of the field venues and surrounding properties. If you have a dog with you at any practice, game or tournament, you will be asked to leave. The Field Marshall can take whatever action is necessary to have the dog removed from the property.
