Parent and Coach Communication Collaboration

August 29, 2023 | Coach, Parents | by Skye Eddy

Conversations are constantly happening between the coach and player about the demands of the game, technical adjustments, tactical teaching and more. The majority of conversations do not and should not involve parents. However, when the conversations are about the player’s development, the coach’s expectations, or stressful situations such as playing time or positional choices – involving a parent in the discussion will make the discussion most effective (unless the parent is being a Crazy SportsParent)

Believe me, I understand and appreciate coaches and professors will not be communicating with parents when our children go to college. This future fact (developing them for college) should not be used by youth coaches as a reason for not involving parents in present day discussions. In truth, the fact that college coaches and professors will not talk to parents should be the primary reason youth coaches are diligent in their efforts to develop the communication skills our children will need later in life

How do we develop those skills in our children?…Through coach and parent collaboration

RRDSC Player Exit Standards
In the Fall of 2014 RRDSC began using age specific Player Standards to better break down the process of player development. Player Standards are a great way to encourage players to work on their game and letting the player know what they need to learn to go to the next level. It is also meant to get the kids to understand what they have to do when they come to practice AND what they need to keep doing away from practice on their own. Youth soccer is entirely about the development of the whole player, therefore, it is the aim of RRDSC to foster player growth through age appropriate standards while gaining comprehensive tactical and technical skills required to play in all positions and facets of the game.

Please take moment to review the Player Exit Standards

Do You Work Hard, or Do You COMPETE?

BY JOHN O'SULLIVAN /  SUNDAY, 04 FEBRUARY 2024 /  PUBLISHED IN BASKETBALLMENTAL TOUGHNESSTEAM CULTURE

“But coach, I am working hard out there,” many of us have heard often as a coach.

“Yes Dad/Mom, I am trying my best” sounds familiar to many a parent.

We all want our athletes to work hard and apply themselves in training and games. But is something more needed to truly excel? Is working hard enough to reach for an athlete to reach his/her potential? I don’t believe it is, as one ingredient, when added to hard work, takes an athlete to the next level.

Do they COMPETE?
