Strawberries are dotting the Berkeley Farmers’ Markets as if they knew citrus and apples were starting to fade from farmers’ tables. One of the varieties that we’re especially happy to see back is the Seascape strawberry, which only Lucero Organic Farm – a second generation and Real Organic certified farm from Galt, California – grows.

Lucero’s Seascapes are easy to spot: they're quite a bit smaller and rounder than the Albion and Chandler varieties that many of our other vendors grow. But don’t let their size fool you. They are always picked ripe, making them sugary sweet and perfect for eating fresh. Lucero Organics also leaves a long stem on their berries, which helps remind us that a human being picked these so we could enjoy them.

Find Lucero’s Seascapes at our South and Downtown Berkeley Farmers’ Markets. They'll be at the North Berkeley market, too, in just a few short weeks. Albion and Monterey varieties are all over all three markets right now at Golden Rule Organics, Avalos Farm, Chay’s Farm, C&M Farm and more.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups mixed greens
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1-2 tbsp (to taste) balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice, more if desired
  • 1 small avocado, diced
  • 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups sliced strawberries
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Strawberry Avocado Salad

This easy peasy recipe can be made entirely with ingredients from our markets.

Instructions

Whisk honey, olive oil, vinegar, and lemon juice together. Top salad greens with avocado and strawberry; drizzle dressing; sprinkle with nuts. Enjoy!
