See you later, citrus—berries are finally here! Not only is strawberry season beginning to pick up, Triple Delight Blueberries will be kicking their season off at the Downtown Berkeley Farmers’ Market tomorrow, April 20th!

Plump, juicy, and somehow managing to strike the perfect balance between sweet and tart, blueberries are truly a wonderful treat. When purchased at the farmers’ market, blueberries are a hand-picked and sustainably-grown labor of love. This is especially true for Triple Delight Blueberries, a family farm out in the San Joaquin Valley with six generations of harvests under their belt. 

Triple Delight will start at the South Berkeley Market this coming Tuesday April 23, and the North Berkeley Market on Thursday May 2nd, but be sure to keep your eye out for blueberries at Smit Farms and Sierra Cascade Blueberry Farm in the coming weeks as well. The season is short, so get while the gettin’s good.

If you're a Saturday market regular, you might be wondering what's going on at the east side of the market. In a nutshell, Berkeley City College is expanding. Construction will begin April 23 and is expected to take under 2 years. It is not expected to disrupt the market's footprint. Check out the Berkeleyside article to learn more.

Celebrate Asian culture and diversity here in Berkeley with a trip to the 3rd annual Asian Cultural Festival. Keep the Earth Day festivities going by joining the Ecology at the Berkeley Bay Festival! After stopping by the Downtown Berkeley Farmers' Market, of course. This free, family-friendly event features activities ranging from live performances, free boat rides, and educational games led by 30 different environmental groups- including the Ecology Center. Stop by our booth to learn about how proper recycling and waste sorting helps our planet. 

One of the many restaurants who source produce from our markets is the Colombian-influenced Mago, on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland. Get a glimpse of a day in the life as a chef by creating a menu alongside Chef Mark Liberman, selecting seasonal ingredients at the South Berkeley farmers' market (a chef favorite) and preparing a three course meal in the Mago kitchen. Tickets are selling out, so act fast!
