Blueberries are here! Today we have two updates to share regarding our blueberry vendors. One sweet and one tart, kind of like the fruit itself.

Sweet: Triple Delight Blueberries is back at all three of our markets! This fifth generation family farm plants 8 different varieties of blueberries on San Joaquin County farmland each year. Their season is very short but very sweet. Nab them while you can.

Tart: We’re sad to report that our other beloved blueberry farm, Sierra Cascade Blueberries, lost their entire crop this year. Despite having endured hard freezes in past years, the spring-fed pond they rely on for frost protection has run dry. Drought and climate change are very real and impacting our farmers right now. If you would like to get involved, please check out the Berkeley Climate Action Coalition, as well as volunteer opportunities with other Bay Area climate action groups, at: Berkeley Climate Action Coalition.

Easy Eating: Blueberry pancakes are the first dish that come to mind, and this recipe is especially fluffy. Save this Blueberry Salsa recipe for summer snack time when tomatoes and peppers hit the market. A Blueberry Basil Goat Cheese Grilled Cheese (maybe with Stepladder chevre?) is a fun way to mix up your usual lunch or dinner. Finally, if you want to step away from the usual pies and muffins, try this Tahini Cake with Blueberry Swirl
