We’re trying to enjoy as many figs as possible before their season draws to a close in just a few weeks. Black Mission figs are the best known (and for good reason), but bright green Kadotas, longer Brown Turkeys, and the fun, green and yellow Tiger Stripes can all be just as good when enjoyed at peak ripeness.

Figs won't continue to ripen after they've been picked, so look for ones that are on the plumper side, and don't shy away those that have already split and are simply unable to contain their pink jammy goodness. This fruit is a treat on it's own, but you can still get creative by stuffing them with a bit of Stepladder's Creamery’s chèvre or roasting them with rosemary and cinnamon like in the recipe below.

Find your favorite fig at C+M Farm, Kashiwase Farm, Full Belly Farms, Double Wild Farm, Lucero Organic Farms, Riverdog Farm, Kaki Farms, and occasionally, Bariani Olive Oil

Ingredients

  • 1 basket of your fig of choice
  • 2 tbsp of brown or coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp fresh rosemary sprigs
  • 3 tbsp honey or maple syrup

Herbed & Spiced, Oven-Roasted Figs

Adapted from Give Recipes's Turkish kitchen

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
  2. Slice figs into quarters and place in a baking dish.
  3. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Place a sprig of rosemary on top of each fig before placing dish in the oven.
  4. Roast for 40 minutes.
  5. Cool for 15 minutes and drizzle with honey or maple syrup.
  6. Enjoy for dessert or on a charcuterie board.
