Long, crooked, and bright red, Jimmy Nardello peppers look awful menacing. Lucky for us, they're actually the sweetest peppers you’ll find at the farmers’ market.
If you’re wondering who Jimmy is, he’s the son of Giuseppe and Angella Nardello, the folks who brought these heirloom seeds here from Italy in the late 1800s. Jimmy’s said to have been the only of their eleven children to take particular care in growing the peppers, preserving the harvests, and saving the seeds. Thanks, Jimmy!
These are hard to find anywhere but the farmers’ market, so head on down. Look for the fully-ripened, bright red ones at Riverdog Farm, Full Belly Farm, and Lucero Organics.
Easy Eating: Jimmies are great in all forms. Serve them raw to dunk in hummus, or blister them to enjoy with burrata. For a hearty meal, roast a Chicken with Jimmy Nardellos and Garlic Yogurt or stuff them Italian-style.
