Want to add some sunshine to your diet? Look no further than Lifefood Garden sunflower microgreens. Pleasantly crisp and nutty, a handful of sunflower microgreens adds that cool, refreshing crunch that a meal calls for as the weather warms. Because they’re on the larger side of the microgreen spectrum, they bulk up salads and sandwiches nicely while also loading you up in iron, magnesium, and a number of other nutrients. Buy a few snips worth to eat within a few days, or purchase by a tray to munch throughout the week.

Easy Eating: Use fresh sunflower microgreens any way your heart desires! Blend them into a smoothie, or sprinkle them onto pizza (like this balsamic mushroom one) or mash them into guacamole.

Sunflower Microgreen Potato Salad

Adapted from Erin McNamara, RDN

Ingredients

For the salad:

  • 1 lb marble or fingerling potatoes (cut into bite sized pieces if using larger potatoes)
  • 5 oz microgreens
  • 1 green onion sliced thin

For the dressing:

  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tbsp flat leaf parsley chopped
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 500 degrees.
  2. In a bowl, drizzle potatoes with olive oil to coat lightly and season with salt and pepper. Place on baking sheets.
  3. Once oven is preheated, put potatoes in oven and roast for about 15 minutes. Timing may differ depending on size of potatoes. You want them to be crispy on the outside and tender in the middle.
  4. When the potatoes are cooked, set aside to cool.
  5. Meanwhile, mix dressing ingredients together in small bowl.
  6. Once potatoes have cooled a bit, place in large bowl with green onion and microgreens.
  7. Drizzle dressing over and stir to combine.
  8. Season with additional salt and pepper if necessary.

Farm Direct Flowers For Mother's Day

If you're shopping for flowers this Mother's Day considering buying them at the farmers' market. Flowers bought farm fresh last way longer than ones from a supermarket, which have probably already been on an airplane (and who wants that on their personal carbon footprint!) Crane Creek has flowers at all three of our markets in addition to Full Belly on Tuesdays and Four Sisters on Saturdays.

Happy Mother's Day!

Tips for Parking on Saturday, May 6th

The Bay Area Book Festival will be taking place in Downtown Berkeley on May 6/7. The outdoor event in Civic Center Park will be Sunday only this year, and we do not anticipate the setup on Saturday to significantly effect the market. In the event parking is impacted, we suggest using the Center St. Parking lot which is half a block east of the market and cheaper than metered parking.
