Why We Ride - Providing Agency Support

Some of us ride for fitness and some ride purely for fun. But we know the top reason CtW riders ride support our efforts is to provide domestic violence outreach services, awareness and education.
In July we wrote about our exciting new outreach programming, so this month we are featuring our agency support efforts.  Over the past eight years The WAVE Foundation has generated more than $1,000,000 in funds, providing grants to many Washington State domestic violence agencies.

Last year alone we gave $105,000 to five different agencies across the state, including Turning Pointe Domestic Violence Services out of Shelton, WA. Please watch this short video to see how YOUR FUNDS made a huge difference in reaching at risk youth this year.

Be a part of the change we need to make a difference. If you can't ride this year, please make a tax deductible donation today...every dollar counts.

We sincerely thank you for your support on behalf of The WAVE Foundation & the twenty plus agencies that have received grants since 2008!

Lots of Fun at the Finish Line Festival

There are many reasons why Cycle the WAVE shines above the rest during the crowded Pacific NW bike event schedule each year - we pride ourselves in offering a truly unique and deluxe ride experience for all riders.  The "wow" factor experience only gets better once you arrive at the Bellevue College Finish Line Festival.
Aside from the high quality complimentary post-meal, did you know that we feature complimentary massage at the Spa Stop?
We will be offering first come, first served 15-minute post-ride massages from 11:30-3:30. In addition to the Spa Stop, Therapeutic Associates will also be on hand to offer post-ride wellness help and advice on any pains or issues.

We understand that "retail therapy" is also a popular pastime following the ride, and we welcome many top vendors to the party this year, along with other promotions:
More info on website by August 30th with full vendor listings, plus full food listings in the next newsletter!
It Takes a Village to Produce the WAVE!

Cycle the WAVE could not happen without the support and hard work of our amazing volunteers! We typically need 250 amazing volunteers signed up to help produce Cycle the WAVE...and we are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us with the event this year.  We most certainly have a job that will fit anyone's skill set and schedule, especially your non-riding friends and family, including ALL the guys!

We are specifically looking for help on event day in the volunteer office and start/finish line - great positions for family and friends. Some volunteer help on set up day and the week prior to the event is also needed. Please visit our volunteer sign up page and register for a position, or email volunteer coordinator Sherry Fadely to see where help is most needed - Sherry would love to hear from you! If there is not a position listed that tickles your fancy, please register as a Day of Event volunteer and we will get back to you (or you can check back for openings). New positions are listed every few days.
We have the best volunteers in the business and we can't do it without you. Thanks in advance to everyone for their help...it's what makes the WAVE so special!
New Rest Stop Hosted by Woodinville Firemen

Cycle the WAVE is only five weeks away! We are happy to offer two wonderful revised routes plus a fabulous new 5.8KM Walk the WAVE option for this year.
Riders will love the new northward bound beginning sections on both the MS (45 mile) and BG (70 mile) routes. Travel through scenic and low-use roads, and featuring a new rest stop at the Woodinville Fire Station 33. We know all will enjoy the changes made for 2016.   Joining the Mt. Si Leo Club at Woodinville Fire Station 33 rest stop, we'll have 3 other fun themed rest stops including New Beginnings at Les Schwab Redmond; JayMarc Homes at Tibbetts Valley Park and SheJumps at Spiritridge Park.

Of course whatever route you choose to do, the time is now to register for the ride/walk if you have not signed up yet. AND you can still save BIG money by registering early! Take $10 off by using promo code "JOINME" (all caps, no spaces); this is good through August only.  (Price increase September 6th.)

P.S. Remember that only the first 1000 registrants receive our signature Gift Bags, including a new dry fit v-neck sports t-shirt, custom water bottle and much more!
John Duggan - AKA The King of Water Bottles!

Longtime WAVE supporter John Duggan, Cycling Attorney has given out about 17,000 free bicycle water bottles throughout the Puget Sound region! He has done a variety of "joint venture" bottles including the last five beautiful WAVE designs.
These bottles have taken on a life of their own and many have become worldwide travelers as people take staged photos in exotic locations around the world.
"About six years ago my family and I were in Waterford, Ireland at a summer festival with some cousins when a bicycle police officer came whizzing by. I am always curious as to what type of bike the police officers are using and while looking at the bike I noticed, to my amazement, that the police officer had a 'JD' water bottle. After the officer finished apprehending the person he was chasing, I introduced myself and asked him where he obtained the bottle. As it turns out, his mother lives near my cousin and my cousin had left several bottles with his mother." What a small world - Duggan certainly did not expect to see one of his bottles on a police bike 6000 miles from Seattle!
