New Series in Genesis!
The third chapter of Genesis tells us the origin of every human problem. Until now (ch 1-2) , we have seen that everything God created was good. Humanity, Adam and Eve, walked with God naked and unashamed. But soon they would be ashamed and hiding from God. What happened?
Chapter 3 of Genesis unfolds the events of rebellion that caused all of mankind to plunge into sin. Paul the apostle said, "Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned." Romans 5:12 (ESV)
The Bible is clear and insists that the heart of all human problems is our rebellion against the God who is our Maker, whose image we bear, and whose rule we seek to overthrow. All of our problems, without exception, can be traced to this one fundamental source: man's rebellion and the just curse of God that we have attracted by this rebellion.
Yet God does not allow Adam and Eve to remain in this state of nakedness. He clothes them and promises a day when the woman's offspring will crush the source of the rebellion. This would take nothing less than God's own Son living the perfect life and dying the death that we deserved and thereby giving us credit for a righteousness that is not our own. Thanks be to God!
