Session 2: Effective Campaign Organizing

At 1pm EST/ 5pm UTC on Saturday, 6 May - This Saturday!

Featuring speaker Joe Wilkins - Ecologist, Nature Campaigner, and World Ocean Day Youth Advisory Council Alum

Session 2 will build off of the foundations set in Session 1, and turn our focus towards what it means to be an effective advocate. In this session, participants will reflect on their individual purpose, and connect to their conservation passions. With the help of an expert capacity-building organizer, participants will develop a strong conservation “why” to help refine the who, what, where, and how of their projects.

Session 3: Social Media & Communications

At 12pm EST/ 4pm UTC on Saturday, 13 May

Featuring speaker Kate Sutter - Community Engagement Manager, World Ocean Day

Session 3 begins to cover more of the technical skills needed to successful conservation communication. This session will focus on science communication and the importance of proper messaging, and how to formulate calls-to-action for social media, op-eds, letters, and other types of communication.

Session 4: Event Planning & Fundraising

At 2pm EST/ 6pm UTC on Saturday, 20 May

Featuring speaker Samantha Gibb - Senior Programs Manager, World Ocean Day

Session 4 will explore the basics of what it takes to pull together a conservation event. This session will cover all things organizing; From recruiting the right people to your team, where to look for funding and how to get it, how to engage with your community for a lasting impact, and more.

We encourage candidates to attend all four sessions to get the full benefit of the training. We ask anyone registering to prioritize attending the sessions live, but session recordings will be publicly available one day after each session. The content of the program is designed for young people ages 15-21, but anyone of any age may attend.

  • Special Resource: The Essential Principles of Climate Literacy - A guide which aims to promote greater climate science literacy by providing an educational framework of principles and concepts. The guide also serves educators teaching climate science as a way to meet content standards in their science curricula.


  • Circular Economy Value Chains SWITCH Internship - Supporting the transition to a circular economy by contributing to sustainable growth, low carbon and climate-resilient development, decent jobs creation, and a safer, healthier and pollution-free environment. Reviewing applications on a rolling basis.


  • Environmental Action Civics Week - Daily events that showcase young people who are civically involved in environmental issues, a celebration of the adults supporting them, and a convening of people changing the future. 8-12 May.


  • Loss and Damage Youth Coalition-Wide Meeting - A global coalition of youth from around the globe aiming to create a borderless partnership to drive action to address loss and damage. Hosting a community call to meet and network with 800+ members from 70+ countries. 12 May, at 5AM GMT & 3PM GMT.


  • OneUpAction Youth Solutionists in Government Program - A 4-month virtual program, empowering US-based youth ages 15-25 to participate in environmental governance on a local, state, and/or federal level. Fellows will participate in capacity-building educational sessions and will work with mentors to apply what they've learned in their own communities. Apply by 14 May.


  • Earth Charter Young Leaders Program (¡Y en español!) - A 10-week virtual leadership, sustainability, and ethics course for emerging young leaders ages 18-30. The training is available multiple times a year in English and Spanish. Next training: In Spanish, begins 22 May.


  • CoalitionWILD Global Mentorship Program - A 6-month virtual mentorship program aimed at building collaborative and cross-generational relationships between emerging young environmental leaders 35 and under and senior conservation professionals. Apply by 29 May.


  • Capitol Hill Ocean Week 2023 - Convened by the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation every June, CHOW brings together scientists, policymakers, scholars, businesses, and conservation leaders to address pressing conservation, science, and management issues facing our ocean and Great Lakes. Virtual and in-person in Washington, DC. 6-8th June.


  • Climate Science Olympiad - A student competition to find solutions to climate change. Ages 12-25 from any country. $10k USD prize. Register by 10 June.


  • From the Bow Seat: Ocean Awareness Art Contest - This annual challenge is a platform for young people to learn about environmental issues through art-making and creative communication, explore their relationship to a changing world, and become advocates for positive change. 2023 theme: Climate Heroes in Action. Students ages 11-18 from around the world can apply. Apply by 13 June.


  • WWF-US Conservation Leadership Award - Celebrating the achievements of exceptional young people working toward conservation solutions in the United States, and seeking to inspire young people to get involved within their communities. Apply by 31 July.
