The Ocean-Climate Connection:
Thoughts from the
Youth Advisory Council
Founded by youth activist Kevin Patel in 2019, OneUpAction is an intersectional youth-led organization working to provide resources to youth advocates, amplify BIPOC voices and leadership, and empower communities to take local action. The founding members of the organization realized that they wanted to do more than participate in climate strikes, rallies, and legislative advocacy; they wanted to take their energy to mass mobilize and complement it with local direct action. OneUpAction, in addition to their multiple upcoming youth fellowship opportunities, is now in the midst of creating a platform in which marginalized young people can access the resources needed to take such direct action in their local communities.
