Nearly 100 percent of the red snapper sampled in the Gulf of Mexico over a 6-year period showed evidence of liver damage. “The results add to the list of other species we’ve analyzed indicating early warning signs of a compromised ecosystem,” said Erin Pulster.

We celebrated Pamela Hallock Muller during Women’s History Month with a Q&A feature story. She was the first female marine scientist hired at USF and serves as a ‘Rosie the Riveter’ and ‘Notorious RBG’ for oceanographers around the globe.

“Our ultimate goal is to learn how far the iron from seafloor sediments travels in the ocean and how much of it nourishes the phytoplankton that form the base of surface ocean marine food webs around the globe,” said Tim Conway.

“…We must continue our commitment to data-driven, science-based decision-making so that we can effectively guide management decisions moving forward,” said dean Tom Frazer.

Marina Marrari graduated from Kendra Daly’s Zooplankton Ecology Lab with a PhD in 2008. Now she’s working her dream job in Costa Rica.
