Partner Spotlight: Office of General Counsel

Risk Management is fortunate to collaborate with outstanding partners across campus. This month, we recognize the Office of General Counsel, a team whose expertise, guidance, and collaborative spirit help support our mission and the mission and values of the university.

The Office of General Counsel partners with the risk management team on matters ranging from contracts and insurance requirements to claims management, property loss recovery, and risk assessment education. They also advise on signature authority, policy interpretation, memoranda of understanding and agreement, and other questions that arise in the day-to-day services we provide.

We value their legal expertise, but we also appreciate their collaborative approach. Attorneys and staff are knowledgeable, solution-focused, and committed to understanding the goals behind our requests. These qualities have been especially helpful when navigating complex issues involving student organizations, volunteers, youth programs, and third-party activities and partnerships.

As one risk management team member noted, “Rather than focusing on obstacles, they help us find a path forward.”

We appreciate their partnership and thoughtful guidance as we work together to protect the university’s financial, physical, and reputational well-being – the heart of our mission.
