Collect for The Third Sunday of Advent
Stir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and, because we are sorely hindered by our sins, let your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

A Meditation for The Third Sunday of Advent
This Sunday is traditionally known as Gaudete Sunday from the Latin word meaning to rejoice. For those of us who have Advent wreaths, this is the Sunday we light the pink candle.
Lighting the pink candle this year takes some courage. As I scrambled to find my Advent wreath in the basement I wondered why I was looking for an Advent wreath no one would see. And then I realized I would see it and that was what mattered.
And now this Sunday you all will see my Advent wreath as well. Rejoicing for now is hard. Lighting a candle I can do. There are a host of things I cannot do and my children remind me of that fairly regularly. When we cannot do anything else, we can light a candle.
Lighting a candle either in church or at home brings a bit more light into the world. In this season of darkness more light is good. Lighting a candle reminds us that the light of God is always with us now and always. Light a candle this day.
You do not need to do anything except light a candle. And the candle does not need to be pink; just light a candle and remember that God wants us to rejoice. Light a candle.
Please remember all those on our prayer list this week found here or in the Good News Daily found here.
