Preaching Text: Luke 7:1-17

Who is worthy? Jesus deems a widow and a centurion to be worthy of having people close to them, a son and a slave, healed. The sheer contrast in these healings causes us to struggle for a place to land. What is Jesus up to here…and what might it have to do with catching people?

Good and gracious God, we have some opinions about who is worthy and who is not. Your son Jesus carves a different path, uses a different measuring stick, and frankly awes us to silence. Help us to glimpse the world the same way, using Jesus’ measure to see our neighbors. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Do third grade students really understand what communion means?

Thanks to the GLC’ers who have alerted us about text messages and emails they have been receiving from "Pastor Trudy" (and other creative forms of her name).

Unfortunately there is not much that can be done except to remember that neither Pastor Trudy nor GLC staff will EVER ask for things like gift cards or account numbers. If you’re ever uncertain, a call to Pastor Trudy or the office should clear it up quickly. And clicking "Report Junk" does help! Thanks for your understanding.

• Bring rain where there is drought, and relief where there have been too many storms. Nourish the earth and all that you have made.
• We lift up doctors, nurses, and all medical staff who care for those who are ill.
• Grant comfort and peace to all who cry out to you for help.
• Provide refugees and all displaced peoples with safety, comfort, and new opportunities and communities.

Giving statements were mailed out last week, however we've learned that our church database system has not been pulling correctly. We are working to correct this. If you didn't receive a giving statement or have any questions regarding your statement, please contact Lisa Kanzler in the church office.

Thank you for your generosity. Your gift of $900 on January 8, 2025 to Feed My Starving Children from the Live Nativity collection is providing 3,103 MannaPack meals to those around the world who need it most. Though poverty is complicated, we know that hunger is fixable - one reliable meal at at a time. Thank you for feeding hungry kids.
