What's on YOUR bookshelf?

Classics by Boyle, Hersey and Hemingway?
|
That's cool, but is it really complete
without D.J. Muller?
|
Come learn "The Secrets to Catching Striped Bass from the Surf" from the guy who wrote the book. Well, actually, more than one. Even some that anglers consider classics. DJ Muller loves surf fishing, especially for stripers, and sharing his knowledge and adventures surfcasting along the striper coast. He also guides and writes articles for The Fisherman magazine and other publications.

The Hudson River Fishermen’s Association is a group of recreational fishermen who make active use of the N.Y. Bight and the surrounding water system and are concerned with the present and future state of these fisheries. Our objectives are to encourage the responsible use of aquatic resources and protection of habitat. We assist where possible in efforts to abate pollution and promote sportfishing and the management of that recreation. We are a IRS recognized nonprofit 501c3 organization . All donations are welcome and maybe tax deductable.

Greetings HRFA Members and Friends,
I hope that as of this writing, we find you all well and safe.
The COVID-19 situation continues and the Elks Lodge is still closed. So, we are conducting the April 13 HRFA General Meeting using ZOOM video teleconferencing. We are excited to announce that our guest speaker that night will be DJ Muller a well-known surf fisherman and guide. If all goes well, we hope to meet in person at the Elks in May.
I would like to express our thanks and appreciation to Arnie Ulrich for sharing his knot tying expertise in our March video conference. We have been having particularly good attendance and I know that there was valuable information for all. Thanks again Arnie.
We conducted the first 2021 E-Board meeting via teleconference. We reviewed last year and set our 2021 objectives accordingly. We are planning to proceed with the programs as conditions permit. Finally, we will be able to resume our E-Board meetings at the Elks Lodge as of April 6th.
We were saddened to learn of the passing of Matthew Joseph Miller, the son of our member Al Miller. May he Rest in Peace.
Currently we are preparing for the Annual Fred Rung Memorial Catch and Release Striped Bass Fishing Derby. The contest is being organized by Joe Albanese. For details please read the announcement under the heading ''Upcoming Events" below.
At this time, still, many of the HRFA activities continue to be suspended or postponed. As we are closely following the current safety and health recommendations on the COVID-19 and reassessing and planning accordingly.
On the positive side, I have been told that many of our members have received the COVID-19 vaccines and this will help with resuming our activities, bringing us closer to our normal lives.
I am receiving catch and release reports that the striped bass are moving into the Hudson River. Reports are also very encouraging from catches in the Hackensack River. I have been receiving photos of your catches. Please note that these are to be sent to Alex Spindelman, [email protected] to be posted on Instagram.
Earlier last month, I, Antony Carbone, and Joe Marchese, had the opportunity to do some challenging, weather-wise, fishing at the Niagara gorge. Fishing was good, but we were forced to shorten our second day trip because of unfriendly winds that made navigating the river very difficult.
Reports are still indicating that 2021 will continue to be a challenging, COVID-19 year. We have early information that the Sportsmen, Outdoors, and Fishing shows, are suspended. At this point, we are postponing our activities, the Annual Award Dinner, and the Auction, that we eagerly look forward to every year. As you are aware of, these functions are also used for raising funds. We will be looking for alternatives for generating funds to enable us to successfully conduct the HRFA very worthwhile programs. We thank you for your help and appreciate your donations.
Be well and stay safe
Capt. Aram Setian
HRFA 2021 President
