What's for Lunch?

Reminders

Good afternoon Riverside Families,

Thank you for coming out to Open House this past week! It was great to see so many families and our students taking you through their learning thus far at the mid-point of the year! Most classrooms are sending learning journals this week as that is a tool that we use to communicate progress, but it certainly does not stop there. Please always feel free to reach out if you have questions.

We will be celebrating Random Acts of Kindness this coming week. Your child should have brought home a cardstock heart as pictured below (ignore the dates). Please write and/or decorate to show all the kinds acts that your child does.

Valentine's Day is of course on Friday, so let's have a big showing of red, pink and purple!

Lastly, our parent feedback survey is live - please see the box below. We do take your feedback very seriously and review it as a staff. We are always looking to improve the experience for your child and your family. Please take a few minutes to fill out the survey.

If you need anything at all, please call, stop in or e-mail.

Respectfully,

Scott Walter

Learning Journals

Coming Home

All Riverside classrooms will be sending home their learning journals after Open House this week. Students all have learning journals that they add to throughout the year to keep track of their progress on grade level learning targets and personal goals. Our "specials" areas (Library, Music, Art, etc.) also contributed to the learning journals at this midpoint of the year. We will be sending them home a few times this year school-wide in order to keep communicating with families about student progress and keep the conversations going.

Please see the attached documents for more information and also some discussion prompts that you can use with your child as you look it over with him/her and send back next week. Thank you!

Parent/Guardian Feedback Survey

As part of our commitment to providing continuous service excellence to our families and our community, we are conducting a survey in partnership with Studer Education. Your feedback will help us determine what is working well in your child’s school and any areas that may need improvement.

The survey takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. We encourage you to complete it in one sitting, as your responses will be saved once you click submit. The survey will ask you to select your child’s school, and you can complete a separate survey for each of the schools your children attend.

The Parent/Caregiver Experience Survey can be accessed here:

The survey is scheduled for Thursday, February 6 through Tuesday, February 25.

To maintain confidentiality of the Parent/Caregiver Experience Survey, our partners at Studer Education will be administering the survey, managing the data collection, and aggregating the data to provide results reports to leaders. Thank you for your commitment to our success!

Student Feedback Survey

Each year, the School District of Menomonee Falls conducts an anonymous student survey to access feedback about our students’ experiences in school. Our school leaders and teachers review this feedback and use it to celebrate successes and develop action steps for improvement. No individual student names or personally identifiable information are collected; only the name of the student’s school is recorded.

The Student Experience Survey will be conducted in classrooms during the next two weeks. All students (grades 1 and up) will have time provided for engaging with the survey. We use standard items designed by our partners at Studer Education. Please view the items below.

Please choose the best response from 1-Strongly Disagree to 5-Strongly Agree, based on your experience.

1. I believe my learning is important at my school.

2. I enjoy specials or electives.

3. I believe my teachers care about me.

4. I feel safe at my school.

5. I believe school rules are consistently enforced.

6. I think my school is clean.

7. I believe my principal is a good leader.

8. I feel safe on the bus (only answer if you ride the bus).

9. I feel there are healthy food choices for me to eat at lunch.

10. I know how to get help when I have a problem.

11. I set learning goals and track my progress.

12. I believe my teachers challenge me to think.

13. I believe my teachers ask me how I learn best.

14. I believe my teachers recognize me for good work.

15. I feel students are nice or show respect to each other at my school.

16. I like going to my school each day.

17. I feel like I belong at school.

18. I feel my family is treated nicely or with respect at my school.

19. I regularly receive feedback from my teachers about my academic progress.

20. I have opportunities to be successful at my school.

On a scale of 0-Not at All Likely to 10-Completely Likely, please rate this item: How likely are you to recommend your school as a good place to learn?

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to reach out.

5th Grade Girls on the Run

Our 5th grade Girls on the Run team is looking for coaches. If you have a passion for volunteerism, healthy habits, goal setting and female empowerment, then you might be a perfect fit for a GOTR coach! As a coach for Girls on the Run, you’ll receive tools and training to help lead a team of girls toward their goals and help them recognize their limitless potential.

New coaches need to attend one training session before the season starts and complete an online training. The season starts the week of March 31st and ends with the 5K on May 31st. Practices are held after school on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:45 - 5:15pm, here at Riverside.

If you are interested in coaching, please reach out to Mrs. Araya, araykat@sdmfschools.org

Want to help?

There are many opportunities to help out at school. Whether helping in the classroom, at PTO events or chaperoning a field trip, we'd love your help.

To ensure that all adults who come in contact with your children are safe to do so, we run background checks on all volunteers. You can apply today to be a volunteer at the link below. Please note that it does take 48-96 hours for the process, so if you want to volunteer, apply early.
