What's for Lunch?

Reminders

Good afternoon Riverside Families,

We had a great week of school and students certainly enjoyed the warmer temperature on Friday after being inside earlier in the week. It looks like there are cold January days ahead though so they should continue to dress warm.

Last week in this space, I talked about our parking lot procedures and safety. We appreciate your cooperation as it takes everyone to keep it safe. We are making some slight changes to procedures to enhance safety:

  • We are adding more supervision outside at the end of the day. One teacher from each grade level is taking their class to another classroom each day a couple minutes early to dismiss from there. This frees up those teachers to supervise our end of day procedures.
  • Busses will be unloaded in the morning and loaded at night only two at a time.
  • Our supervisors will give a visual signal to bus drivers when it is clear that they can pull away.
  • We are adding a supervisor to the community center lot at the bottom of the steps from the Riverside parking lot. Just like our own Riverside lot, we will no longer let students walk across the lot by themselves to cars parked in those spots. If you are in a "hillside" spot, students can walk to you. We ask if you are in any other spot to please walk to the bottom of the steps to get your child. Thank you for your help!

We do think these slight changes will make our dismissal procedures and parking lot even safer for students. We appreciate your help too! If you have any questions or feedback, please let us know.

Just a reminder that there is no school on Monday, January 20 in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We talked about his quote, "The time is always right to do what is right," on the announcements on Friday.

Respectfully,

Scott Walter

A Piece of the PIE

A Piece of the PIE

πŸ”΄ Last month's ultimate dodgeball fundraiser at Surge Martial Arts was a real rager, and raised roughly $450 for PIE. πŸ₯³ This money helps support our schools and educators. A huge thanks to all who attended.

πŸ‘‚ Have you heard the news? Ben Franklin will soon soundproof its cafeteria, and we're sure the students (and staff!) will be thankful for the less-chaotic lunch periods. PIE is helping fund this project with a $3,500 donation. Members approved the request unanimously by voice vote at our January meeting. We can't wait to seeβ€”and hearβ€”how it turns out.

πŸͺ‘ Our next meeting is slated for Wednesday, Feb. 12 in the Ben Franklin library. We hope to see you there!

πŸ’» And if "staying in the know" is another one of your resolutions (because it should be!), then be sure to give us a follow over on Facebook. Cheers, everyone!

Want to help?

There are many opportunities to help out at school. Whether helping in the classroom, at PTO events or chaperoning a field trip, we'd love your help.

To ensure that all adults who come in contact with your children are safe to do so, we run background checks on all volunteers. You can apply today to be a volunteer at the link below. Please note that it does take 48-96 hours for the process, so if you want to volunteer, apply early.
