Reminders

Good afternoon Riverside Families,

We had a great week of school - although it was a short one! We did remind students to make sure they are prepared for the weather and always expect to go outside. All of the elementary schools in our district stay inside when the wind chill is below zero, but as you know even when it is in the single digits, our wide open playground can be pretty cold. We reminded our older students that they are not "too cool" for hats, jackets and gloves :).

There is no school on Monday as it is a teacher in-service day. We will spend the day reviewing our literacy practices as we continue implementing our new curriculum.

Please see below to keep an eye out for learning binders coming home this week as we use them to help communicate student progress with you. Those then will lead into Open House on Thursday, February 6.

Respectfully,

Scott Walter

Learning Journals

Coming Home

All Riverside classrooms are sending home students' learning journals this week. Students all have learning journals that they add to throughout the year to keep track of their progress on grade level learning targets and personal goals. Our "specials" areas (Library, Music, Art, etc.) also contributed to the learning journals at this midpoint of the year. We will be sending them home a few times this year school-wide in order to keep communicating with families about student progress and keep the conversations going.

Please see the attached documents for more information and also some discussion prompts that you can use with your child as you look it over with him/her and send back next week. Thank you!

A Piece of the PIE

A Piece of the PIE

☃️ It may be freezing out there, but PIE fundraising is heating up! 🥵 Our latest Box Tops collection period raised more than $500, which follows the $450 raised during the December dodgeball event. As always, we thank you for your support!

🪑 Our next meeting is slated for Wednesday, Feb. 12 in the Ben Franklin library. We hope to see you there!

💻 If you haven't already, sure to give us a follow over on Facebook. Stay warm out there!

Want to help?

There are many opportunities to help out at school. Whether helping in the classroom, at PTO events or chaperoning a field trip, we'd love your help.

To ensure that all adults who come in contact with your children are safe to do so, we run background checks on all volunteers. You can apply today to be a volunteer at the link below. Please note that it does take 48-96 hours for the process, so if you want to volunteer, apply early.
