CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE FILING BEGINS MONDAY; THREE COUNCIL SEATS UP FOR ELECTION
Riverton City’s candidate filing period for Council Districts 1,2 and 5 begins next week. The general election will be held on November 5, and if necessary, a primary election will be held on August 13. Each person seeking to become a candidate must pay a $50 filing fee and file a Declaration of Candidacy in person with the City Recorder during office hours on any day from June 3-7.

BEST OF RIVERTON PHOTO CONTEST BACK AGAIN - SUBMIT PHOTOS TO HELP TELL RIVERTON'S STORY
The 2nd Annual Best of Riverton Photo Contest begins on Saturday, June 1, and continues through the end of July! Residents, neighbors and visitors are encouraged to submit photos of life and landscape in Riverton. Submitted photos will be used to tell Riverton’s story in communications and marketing materials. Contest winners will receive a cash prize, have their winning photo featured with attribution on the city’s social media pages and website, and will be recognized at a Riverton City Council meeting.

1st Place - $300
2nd Place - $200
3rd Place - $100

Start Independence Day off right by running in the Riverton Country Mile 5K or 10K races! This annual tradition is held in conjunction with Riverton Town Days on July 4. The 10K begins at 7:15 a.m. and the 5K begins at 7:30 a.m.

ALL CEMETERY DECORATIONS AND ITEMS TO BE REMOVED MONDAY
All grave decorations and items at the Riverton City Cemetery will be removed next week to allow for a full mowing, trimming and cleaning. Residents who have items of value at the cemetery need to remove them by 7:30 a.m. on Monday, June 3. Items may be placed back in the cemetery beginning Thursday, June 6.
RESIDENTS ENCOURAGED TO REVIEW NAMES & DATES FOR ACCURACY ON TEMPORARY VETERAN'S MEMORIAL AT CEMETERY
A temporary veteran’s memorial monument has been placed at Riverton City Cemetery. Residents with family or loved ones who were veterans and who are buried in the cemetery are encouraged to review the monument for accuracy. Veteran’s names, year of birth, and year of death are listed. Any changes should be emailed to Joy Johnson at jjohnson@rivertoncity.com as soon as possible. A permanent memorial monument will replace the temporary memorial later this year, so now is the time to make any necessary changes!
TEDx RIVERTON TO BE HELD ON JUNE 5; TICKETS AVAILABLE

Riverton City Council Recognizes Unified Police Department Officers for Service to City
The Riverton City Council was pleased to recognize Unified Police Department officers, both past and present, who have served the city with dedication since 2009. UPD will continue to provide law enforcement service through the end of June. The new Riverton Police Department will take over law enforcement service on July 1.
Lisa Carter Recognized with Outstanding Citizen Award
Lisa Carter was presented with the Outstanding Citizen Award at the Riverton City Council Meeting on May 21 for her dedication to youth suicide prevention. Congratulations Lisa and thank you for your contributions to our community!

Fall Baseball - Registration Open
Help your kids learn the basics of baseball by registering them to participate in our Fall Baseball program! We have the following age divisions: tee ball (3-4 years old), coach pitch (5-6 years old), machine pitch (7-8 years old). Games begin the week of August 5. For details, or to register, click here.

Flag Football - Registration Open
Registration is now open for Flag Football! We have divisions for 1st-2nd Grade, 3rd-4th Grade, and 5th-6th Grade. This is an excellent program to introduce your kids to the game of football. Games begin the week of September 9. For details, or to register, click here.

Glass Recycling
A glass recycling collection bin has been placed behind City Hall. Residents are encouraged to save their glass recycling items and deposit in the bin as needed. The bin is accessible from Park Avenue.

Landfill Disposal Vouchers Available
Disposal vouchers for the Trans-Jordan Landfill are available at the Riverton City Utility Billing Office at 12830 S Redwood Road in Riverton. The vouchers will be available until June 30, 2019. Limit of two per household.

Splash Pads Open
Splash pads at Old Farm Park, Riverton City Park, and Western Springs Park are now open for the summer! The splash pads will remain open until September 3.

Sidewalk of Fire - Fireworks Notice
The Sidewalk of Fire event will be held on Friday, June 14, from 6:30-10 p.m. at Riverton City Park. The customer appreciation event, sponsored by many businesses, is open to the public. A large fireworks show will take place that evening. Anyone in the surrounding communities with pets or those who suffer from PTSD are urged to plan accordingly. Click here for event details.

Town Days Parade Entries
Applications are now being accepted for entries in the Riverton Town Days Parade on Wednesday, July 3. There is no cost for Riverton residents, businesses, or organizations. A $20 fee is charged for non-Riverton businesses and organizations to participate. Space is given on a first come, first served basis. The deadline to register is Tuesday, June 18. Unified Police Temporary Location
Unified Police Department - Riverton Precinct is operating out of the Sandra N. Lloyd Community Center through the end of June to allow the Riverton Police Department to ready the police station for the department launch. Anyone needing to reach UPD in person can access the temporary office by entering the west doors.
