Following the Riverton City Council’s decision on Oct. 23 to move forward in forming the Riverton Police Department, the city has opened the position of chief of police and is now accepting applicants. The new chief will oversee the formation of the new department, including the hiring of officers, the acquisition of equipment, the creation of a budget, and the development of policy.

“We’re excited to be able to open the chief of police position and begin accepting applicants,” said Riverton City Manager Konrad Hildebrandt. “We’re looking to hire someone who will create and develop the Riverton Police Department into the best department in Utah, bar none.”

The Unified Police Department – Riverton Precinct would like to remind citizens as the weather gets colder and we move into the holiday months to do your part to prevent crime and protect yourself from becoming a victim.

As the weather gets colder in Utah, the tendency to warm up your vehicle in the driveway is a big temptation. It is also a big temptation for vehicle thieves; they will be driving around our neighborhoods looking for vehicles warming up. In 2018, we have had 65 vehicles stolen in Riverton. The clear majority of those stolen vehicles were running or had the keys left in them. We will do our part with proactive policing, but we ask citizens to help us as well.
