This week at Riverview
Friends are having fun riding bikes around campus!
Masking Update: As most of you have already heard in the news, Governor Baker has revised the outdoor public masking requirement. Per the MA Department of Public Health website:

Revised order requiring masks in public places
Governor Baker issued an order effective April 30, 2021 requiring people to wear masks or face-coverings in indoor public places and outdoors when they are unable to maintain 6 feet from other people. Face coverings will still be required at all times in indoor public places. Face coverings will also continue to be required at all times at events, whether held indoors or outdoors and whether held in a public space or private home, except for when eating or drinking.

What does this mean for Riverview Students?
If students are in an outside setting (outside on campus, a beach walk, wooded trail hike) and are able to maintain 6 feet of distancing from others, they will not be required to wear a mask. Riverview School staff will advise students when they are in an outside mask free setting as they are best able to determine if 6 feet of distancing can realistically be maintained. Students will also be advised to always have a mask with them when they are outside as the setting may change from one where appropriate distancing can be maintained to one where the appropriate distancing cannot be maintained.

Important Reminders:

Off Campus Visits:  All visitations for eligible students and other travel plans for your student must be sent to Jenna Beer, Travel Coordinator, travel@riverviewschool.org. Dorm staff are not able to accept this information.  Please set up visits in advance, one week ahead of your planned visit. Last minute visits may not be able to be accommodated. We have careful systems in place to track the whereabouts of students at all times, so your cooperation with this ensures your student's safety.

Contactless Drop Off: If a parent or guardian needs to arrange a contactless drop-off of student belongings, you must contact your student’s residential supervisor to schedule an appointment. Drop-offs may be scheduled Monday-Friday 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. All contactless drop-offs are to be left in the designated space outside of the residential office. If perishable items are being dropped off, parents/guardians can call ext. 257 to alert the Residential Office that the item has arrived. Parents or guardians dropping off items should not go to the dorm and are not allowed to enter any buildings or have contact with any staff or students while on campus. Contactless drop-offs are limited to once per week.

Congratulations Students of the Week!

This week's GROW Student of the Week is Eliza L. Eliza has jumped into her last year at Riverview head first! She has shown how flexible, strong, and confident she is by how she has adapted to any challenge thrown her way. To say that she has GRIT is an understatement. Eliza is not only willing to lend a helping hand, but she is always happy to take on additional tasks or run errands. Eliza is a very passionate person and that shows through her discussions about her beloved dogs. Eliza’s self-confidence has really blossomed and we are so proud of her!

This week's MS/HS Student of the Week is Tyler S. This week we are excited to acknowledge a senior who has really “stepped it up” this year academically. His participation in all of his classes has soared and his teachers have seen such growth with his verbal answers. This Rock Harbor student is a shining star in Mr. Amaral’s history class making connections during “This Day in History” activities, tying in information from what he learned Junior year. He is also impressing his teachers using higher-level vocabulary and demonstrating greater independence on his Chromebook. Congratulations Tyler; a good student, a good friend and this week’s Student of the Week!

Looking for Participants for Digital Helper Research Study

Riverview alumni mom and Board Member, Amy Weinstock, sent us this posting from her colleague.

The study is seeking:

  • Transition-age teens (14-17) and young adults (18-22) with ASD, IQ over 70 and with 1 parent or guardian who will also participate.

  • Participation is 2 Zoom study visits only. No medicines or activities outside of the Zoom study visits.

The participants so far, all of them (13 to date) have enjoyed it as have their parent/guardian. So, it is brief and a fun one for all.
