A Note From Dr. Compton
Dear Lions,

It's hard to believe that we're down to the final 33 days of school. I know what you're thinking, "that has to be a mistake," but I double checked. Yes, we only have 33 days of school remaining in the 2018 - 2019 school year.

The next 7 weeks of school are going to fly by. I was just looking at the school calendar and there are only 4 days remaining where we do not have a school-wide activity; such as state testing, field trips, and award ceremonies.

Before I share with each of you a few upcoming highlights, I do want to say "thank you." Thank you PTO for the idea and thank you parents, staff and board members for believing in the impossible. Because of your donations, the parents are going to notice a major change tomorrow as you come around the traffic circle. Click here for a preview.

Here are a few things that I'd like to specifically share with you and to make you aware of:
  • Dual Enrollment - During this week's board meeting, we'll unveil our dual credit/enrollment plan. Earlier this week, we met with York Technical College and it's our plan to be able to offer up to 9 hours of college credit beginning with some of our 10th graders next year and then the plan is that our eligible 11th and 12th grade students can possibly complete their Associate degree by the time they graduate from Riverwalk Academy.
  • Board Visioning Committee - On Tuesday, Mike Riddle, board member and vision committee chair, will lead a Riverwalk Academy vision discussion/brainstorming session. This session is open to the public and begins at 4:30 pm. If you are unable to attend, but would like to give your input, please click here.
  • Testing Monitors - We are in need of testing monitors for our upcoming state testing. See below for more information.
  • 19/20 Enrollment - Lions, because of the way you all "carry the banner" for Riverwalk Academy, our projected enrollment is stronger than ever. We currently have a waiting list for several of our grade levels.

Lions, as you can see, we have some exciting things happening at Riverwalk Academy. These things are possible because of our Pride. Thank you for continuing to trust in us and for believing in the future.

As for these final 33 days, it's time to buckle our seatbelts because this time is going to fly.

Let's have a great week!
Robert Compton, Ph.D.

A Call For Assistance
We're in need of testing monitors to assist during the administration of SC Ready, SC PASS, and EOCs. The role of the monitor is to assist the testing administrators during the state assessment. We're looking for parents, grandparents, and other responsible adults from 8 - 11 each day during testing. Click here for more information or to sign up.

Junior Beta Club Raffle
It's not a candy sale.... it's a "Guess How Many" raffle to benefit the Humane Society. The 3 prizes are the full containers of candy, once the ticket sale is over. We have 3 different sized, clear containers full of candy and sealed. (Swedish Fish & Sour Patch Kids, Tootsie Rolls & Fruit Chews, and assorted Reese's/Kisses & assorted wrapped Hershey chocolates) We also have two large bags of Tootsie Rolls & Fruit Chews as a single 'thank-you' (immediate reward) for each donation guess form filled out. Entry forms are already printed to identify the name of the purchaser, their teacher, and their 3 guesses (in order to ensure the winners get their correct prize).  Our goal is to raise $250 + recoup Jr. Beta Club's initial investment for purchasing the candy and the containers.
