A Note From Dr. Compton
Dear Lions Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and that you enjoyed the additional day off. As I alluded to last week, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was even more than the advocate for civil rights that we know. He was also an advocate for education. I was reading about some of his work over the weekend and I came across this:
What spoke to me about this quote was how this aligns to so much of what we say we want, but not how we are measured or held accountable.

For example, I was talking with our teachers on Friday and we began talking about the "soft skills" like work ethic, communication, and team work. These soft skills are what makes up a majority of the SC Department of Education's Profile of the SC Graduate . But here's the issue: we (schools) are not measured by, or held accountable for, our student's soft skills.

However, just like Dr. King spoke about in the above quote, at the end of the day, these soft skills are what we want most for our students.

Lions, I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Sincerely,
Robert Compton, Ph.D.

Dr. Compton, sporting his Riverwalk Academy shorts, and his daughter, Maggie, ran in the Charleston Marathon's Shrimp and Grits 5K last Saturday in Charleston.
We'd love to show off our families wearing their Riverwalk Academy gear. Please send any photos, with a caption, to  Dr. Compton   and they just might end up here for all to see.
