A Note From Dr. Compton
Dear Lions,

I cannot believe that we are crossing two separate milestones this week; both of which happen on the same day.  Not only does this Friday mark the first day of February, but it marks our 100th day of school. I hate to use a cliché’, but wow, the time has flown by.

About this Friday, our fabulous PTO has put together a day of activities. Not only do they have events planned during the school day for our students, but that evening, beginning at 6:00 pm, the PTO is hosting a trivia night, which will include the 100th Day of School Sale: $5 spirit wear, $20 hoodies, and $15 coupon books. The doors open at 6:00 pm and trivia will begin around 6:15 pm.  The trivia categories, all of which are kid-friendly, will also include a round of Riverwalk Academy trivia. All students and their families are invited. The entry fee is, you guessed it, 100 pennies.

Since we’re officially past the half-way mark, it’s time to start thinking about 2019 – 2020. Here are some things I would like to bring your attention to:

  • Enrollment – Families, you are our best referral source. You all carry “our banner” so well and for this, I thank you. Please know that the enrollment deadline for new families is 11:59 pm on February 19th. If you know families who are considering Riverwalk Academy, please share this information with them. To enroll, they need to click here. Based on what we can tell at this time, we will most likely be at capacity for most grade levels next year.
  • We do have two kindergarten information sessions scheduled (click here to express an interest in attending):
  • Monday, February 4th at 6:45 pm (immediately following that evening’s PTO meeting)
  • Friday, February 8th at 2:30 pm.
  • Re-Enrollment – A letter will be shared next Sunday about the re-enrollment process. A copy will also be sent home with each child on Wednesday, February 6th. Please be on the lookout for this.
  • Project-Based Learning Feedback – Parents, I truly appreciate your feedback. Your insight is invaluable. With this being said, please consider taking this short feedback survey about your thoughts and experiences with PBL. We have a PBL Leadership Committee, led by Ms. Krebs and Mr. Carroll. This committee is working on improving the PBL experience for our staff and students, and your feedback will be shared with them.
  • Middle and High School – we have begun the process of planning for the 2019 – 2020. Our planning includes our academic, extracurricular, and athletic programs. We have some exciting things in the works for the next school year, and we can’t wait to share this with you in the upcoming weeks.

In closing, parents, I truly believe that the Riverwalk Academy Pride is powerful. Each of you is a valuable member of our Pride, and we take none of you for granted. Thank you for being part of our Pride.

Book Swap
Save the Date : February 7 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

How it works:

Turn in your gently used age appropriate books (grades K - 9) from home to Ms. Baumeister , Mrs. Hyleman , Mrs. Reneau , Ms. Mavrakis , or Mr. Ogburn .

You will then get tickets for each book turned in. There is a maximum of 5 books you may turn in. Each book is worth one ticket.

After you get your tickets, join us on the night of the book swap to trade your tickets for new books. You can then take your new books home to enjoy!

Lions Pride
You never know when you will be spotted out in the community showing your #LionsPride.
Alex Ray, a 9th-grade student and a member of the Class of 2022, sporting a hoodie he created as a prototype. He and his 9th-grade marketing classmates were discussing the idea of a school store as part of their class project. He took his idea to Rock Hill Screen Printing , and this prototype was created. Be on the lookout for this, and other spirit wear options soon.
We'd love to show off our families wearing their Riverwalk Academy gear. Please send any photos, with a caption, to  Dr. Compton   and they just might end up here for all to see.
