A Note From Dr. Compton
Dear Lions,

Congratulations, welcome to the final week of the school year. As I was talking with parents and staff members on Saturday at the end-of-season bash, a common theme kept reoccurring: happiness and community. I'd hear things like, "the staff all seem to be happy and all seem to get along" and "it's the community that the school has built that my family and I love."

I couldn't be more prouder of where we (Riverwalk Academy) are right now. For the first time in the school's history:
  • 100% of the middle and high school teachers are returning,
  • 92% of the elementary school teachers are returning,
  • 93% of all students have indicated that they are returning, and
  • we've received an additional 137 completed enrollment packets for next school year.

With all of this excitement and positive momentum, I also recognize that we have some opportunities for growth. For example, we're spending some time this summer working on improving our school-wide PBL approach. We're excited to be spending three days this summer with a trainer from the Buck Institute for Education working with all of our teachers on bringing our PBL approach up to a gold standard. We'll also spend time this summer providing upgrades to our school security and to our classroom- and student-level technology.

Pride, I hope you and your family have a wonderful summer break and that it's filled with many memories and a good book or two.

Thank you all for an outstanding and memorable year and I can't wait to see each of you in August. The 2019 - 2020 school year is poised to be our best one yet.

Sincerely,
Signature

End of the Year Bash and Talent Showcase
Thank you to all who showed up to the End-Of-The-Year Bash on Saturday. The PTO and parent volunteers did an outstanding job closing out the school year with a bang. We had some outstanding student performances that kept us entertained throughout the evening.
Choral Students Receive Excellent Rating
For the 2nd consecutive year, the Riverwalk Academy Choral Singers, directed by Mr. Wright, earned an Excellent Rating at the Carowinds Festival of Music. The Excellent rating is the highest rating a school can earn. Congratulations Lions!

Consider Donating Your Extra School Supplies
As some of you might know, Jazmine Sepulveda, pictured with Senator Tim Scott, won the Prudential Spirit of Community Award for the State of South Carolina. She has asked for our help with donations of school supplies.

Beginning next week, you can help her by dropping off any used or surplus school supplies (book bags, binders, crayons, pens, pencils, lunch boxes, ect.) that are still is usable condition in one of the boxes in the school building.

This box will be easy to find, for it will have a logo on it that reads "The Heart of a Star." These items will be sent to the Dominican Republic for children who are living in poverty. We thank you for your support and remember one man's trash is another man's treasure! Power of the Pride!!!!!!

Summer Reading
Congratulations on making it to summer! We are excited for the 2019-2020 school year! As part of our endeavor to make sure all students are ready for a successful school year, all new and returning students in kindergarten - 5th grade will be encouraged to read over the summer by using a Summer Reading Bingo sheet. As you know, reading during the summer is a great way to increase a student’s love for reading and a great way to support each student as a growing reader.

The Summer Reading Bingo sheet will provide students with creative places and different choices for reading during the summer. Students will use the Summer Reading Bingo sheet to track their reading progress during the summer months. For each completed task or activity, students will color or check each box on the Summer Reading Bingo sheet and write the title of the book in the box.

All Summer Reading Bingo Sheets will be due the first day of school, August 21 st , 2019. All students who complete the Summer Reading Bingo sheet will receive a Scholastic gift certificate.

Lions Pride
You never know when you will be spotted out in the community showing your #LionsPride.
Leah, sister to Taylor Walker (9th grade), was spotted at the Rock Hill Country Club wearing a Riverwalk Academy Lions hat.
We'd love to show off our families wearing their Riverwalk Academy gear. Please send any photos, with a caption, to  Dr. Compton   and they just might end up here for all to see.
