A Note From Dr. Compton
Dear Lions Parents,

I do not know about you, but wow, the time is sure flying. I was shocked earlier today when my wife and her family were talking about preparing for Thanksgiving. Sure enough, Thanksgiving is only 18 days away.

As I go through November, I am going to be mindful about all the things that I have to be thankful for. My goal, starting with tonight, is to write down three things that took place during that particular day that I am thankful for. I have done similar things like this in the past, but nothing specific to "being thankful." I'm looking forward to spending a few minutes each night reflecting on this.

To get myself ready for this, I spent a few minutes earlier today thinking about things at Riverwalk Academy that I'm thankful for.

I am thankful for the students. I was sitting at a football game this weekend talking with a few teachers and one of the teachers made the comment about "how awesome our students are." I fully agree. My "why" is the Riverwalk Academy students. These students will eventually (sooner than later) become our leaders, doctors, artists, engineers, marine biologists, chefs, and writers of tomorrow. It's exciting to know that one day, I'll have a conversation with one of your children and it will go something like this, "Gavin, I remember when you were in 6th grade and you said you wanted to be a marine biologists, and check you out, 20 years later, you're doing it."

I'm also thankful for our staff. I've been in education for 18 years and have worked with a lot of teams, and all I can say about the Riverwalk Academy staff is "wow." We have 52 staff members on payroll and I am constantly amazed by each of them. It's an honor and privilege to be able to work with the team that I do. I am a better person because of them.

For my third "thankful" point, I'd like to say that I am thankful for for the Lions' Family. Parents, you have been nothing but supportive of myself and of Riverwalk Academy. You also hold us to high standards. Each of you recognize that it's a shared partnership and that both parties have similar goals. I believe I mentioned this last week, but there is not another set of parents who I want "carrying the Riverwalk Academy banner."

Parents, I sincerely hope that each of you have a wonderful week. I'm looking forward to spending a few minutes each day reflecting on what I am thankful for. I encourage each of you to do the same. If any member of our staff ever makes your "top three," please consider taking a few extra minutes to let them know by nominating them for Staff Member of the Month .

With much thanks,
Robert Compton, Ph.D.

Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair will be at Riverwalk Academy this week. Students (K - 5) will participate in a book fair preview on Monday with their class. Students will be able to shop any day during their designated class time.

On Thursday, the book fair will stay open until 4:00 pm so families may be able to shop.

This year, Scholastic is offering a "cash free" shopping option for families. Families can visit this page to sign up for the cash-free option where parents pre-load any amount of money to their child's account. Any unspent funds will be returned to the families, free of charge.

The Lions Pride
You never know when you will be spotted out in the community showing your #LionsPride.
We spotted some Riverwalk Academy staff, sporting their Riverwalk Academy gear, at the Carolina Crusaders football game on Saturday. They were there cheering on Alex Ray (#64) and Matthew White (#12), both in 9th grade.
We'd love to show off our families wearing their Riverwalk Academy gear. Please send any photos, with a caption, to Dr. Compton and they just might end up here for all to see.
