Pride,
I hope each you is doing well and that you're enjoying your summer break. It's hard to believe that we're less than a month away from the start of the 22 - 23 school year. While you've been away, we've been busy preparing for the new school year. We have some exciting announcements to share the each of you about the upcoming school year.
School Resource Officer
Last Spring, we applied for and received a grant to fund a full time School Resource Officer (SRO) who will be at Riverwalk Academy's main campus. The York County Sheriff's Office is working on their SRO assignments for the upcoming school year, so we do not know who our SRO will be at this time.
Safety Enhancements
Over this summer, we've been working on improving some of our safety features for the upcoming school. year. These include updated entry options for our main building and a secured door for our modular unit that can only be opened by the teachers' key fobs or by the front office "buzzing" the students in.
Technology Upgrades
When our K - 6th grade students return, they'll notice that the old projectors that were in their classrooms have been replaced with mobile interactive promethean boards. Not only does this make instruction more interactive and engaging, but for our front classrooms, the teachers have the option to arrange the seating in a variety of ways and not just towards a fixed point.
14- Passenger Bus
When our students return, they'll noice that we now have a 14-passenger bus that will be used to transport some students between our main campus and York Technical College. It will also be used to transport our athletes to their away games. An email will be sent out to our families of 10th - 12th grades students, who also have younger siblings at Riverwalk Academy on Monday, July 26 about requesting transportation for the upcoming school year.
Please be on the lookout for our next newsletter on Sunday, July 31st. Beginning on Wednesday (July 20), we'll go live with a Back to School Page where our Pride can find all the information they need about preparing for the upcoming school year and preparing for the first few days of school. Our teacher assignments will be mailed by Friday, August 5 and our school supplies lists can be found by clicking here.
On behalf of the staff, we hope you have a wonderful last few weeks of the summer and we hope to see you all on Monday, August 8 for our meet the teacher event and back to school bash.
In Strength and Blessings,
Dr. Robert Compton,
Head of School
