Happy Sunday, Pride!
I want to start off by saying "thank you" to our K - 9 families for such a wonderful start of the 22 - 23 school year. Each of you did a fantastic job modeling patience and flexibility during our first few days of arrival and dismissal, and for this, I thank you.
For our 10th - 12th grade students, good luck this week as it's your week to return to school. Our 10th - 12th grade team has been preparing all week for tomorrow's start, and we all are anticipating a successful first day.
To our seniors, good luck tomorrow as this will be the last "first day" of your high school career. Enjoy it!
I wanted to share some news with each of you that I mentioned earlier this summer concerning a school resource officer (SRO). Earlier this summer, I shared the news that we applied for and were awarded a State grant for a full-time SRO. We were awarded one, along with each school district in York County. That meant that the York County Sherrif's Office (YCSO) needed to hire five additional SROs. During our planning meetings with the YCSO, we knew one would not be in place by the first day of school and that we'd have to share with another school until ours was hired.
On Thursday, we met our "shared" SRO that will be with us until the middle of September. His name is Corporal Gilbert (pictured above), and you'll be seeing him this week during arrivals or dismissal. He spent some time with us on Thursday, and he's going to fit right into our culture. Within a few minutes of taking a tour, he gave fist bumps to our kindergarten students and chatted with some of our upperclassmen.
We're very excited about Cpl. Gilbert, but then on Friday, we met who we believe will be our actual SRO (around mid-September). We'll share more about him in the upcoming weeks, but he's going to be a great fit too. It takes someone special to be able to serve as an SRO in a K-12 setting, and we believe that both Cpl. Gilbert and our permanent SRO possess this ability.
Lions, we're poised to have another great week, and we greatly appreciate your faith, trust, and support.
In Strength and Blessings,
~Dr. Compton
