There are several projects underway in Chino. Many of these projects have been in the works for years and once completed, will bring much needed improvements to our community.


We appreciate your patience as you navigate the inconvenience of detours and road closures. Remember to plan ahead and follow posted signage and detours.

Grand Avenue Lane Reductions

Grand Avenue from Pipeline to Roswell Avenue

The next phase of work on Grand Avenue begins January 23 and includes the installation of concrete pavement. Concrete is an alternative to asphalt that is more durable and less likely to create potholes therefore requiring less maintenance and producing a smoother ride.


The work will require several lane closures with portions of the road being reduced to one lane. Access to local businesses will be maintained at all times. Plan ahead, allow for extra travel and use posted detours.


Lane closures will occur on westbound Grand Avenue from Pipeline to Roswell at 9:00am on January 23 through January 29 at 4:00pm.

SR-71 Weeknight Lane Closures

Caltrans will be performing work on SR-71 for the $10.1M Fiber Optic Installation Project. The work is scheduled to take place NIGHTLY beginning Tuesday, January 17 through Friday, January 20 from 9:00pm-6:00am. Work concludes Saturday, January 21 at 6:00am.


The following are planned work and alternating closure locations:



North-bound:

  • Pine On-Ramp
  • #2 & #3 Lanes from Pine to Soquel Canyon


South-Bound:

  • LA/SBD County Line to SR-142/Chino Hills Pkwy.
  • Mainline Lane #2
  • Peyton Dr. to Pipeline Ave.
  • Mainline Lane #2
  • Pine Ave. to SR-83/Euclid Ave.
  • Mainline Lanes #2 and #3
  • SB 71 / WB 91 Connector

55-Hour Weekend Closure

The SR 60/Central Avenue eastbound off-ramp and westbound on-ramp is scheduled to be closed for 55-hours starting Friday, January 20 at 9:00 p.m. through Monday, January 23 at 5:00 a.m. There will also be intermittent lane closures on Central Avenue bridge during this time. Detour routes will be posted.


At times work throughout the corridor may be loud and cause vibration.

55 Hour Closure of Westbound 91

A weekend full closure of all lanes on westbound 91 from Interstate 15 to Lincoln Avenue is scheduled for Friday, January 27 at 10 p.m. to Monday, January 30 at 5 a.m.


All westbound 91 lanes in this area will be closed including the westbound 91 Express Lanes in Riverside County. The westbound 91 Main Street on-ramp and off-ramp, the westbound 91 Lincoln Ave. off-ramp, and the westbound 91 connectors from Interstate 15 will also be closed.


When:

Friday, January 27 at 10 p.m. to Monday, January 30 at 5 a.m. Construction activity is subject to change, due to weather and other factors.


Where:

  • Weekend full closure of westbound 91 lanes, from Interstate 15 to Lincoln Ave.
  • Weekend full closure of westbound 91 Main. St. on-ramp and off-ramp
  • Weekly full closure of westbound 91 Lincoln Ave. off-ramp
  • Weekend full closure of westbound 91 Express Lanes
  • Weekend full closure of westbound 91 connectors from I-15. The I-15 will remain open.

City Road Improvements

Central Avenue at Eucalyptus

Ongoing temporary lane closures at the intersection related to development related public improvements to roadway, sidewalk, and traffic signal. Work to be completed by Winter 2023.



Chino Ave. between Mountain Ave and Bunker Hill Place

Intermittent lane closures with at least one lane open in each direction at all times to perform pothole work for storm drain installation.



Edison Avenue from Central Avenue to east of Oaks Avenue

Eastbound and Westbound turns on Edison at Oaks are closed. Detour routes are Central or Mountain to Eucalyptus / College Park.


More about the Project: Construction of storm drain, street widening, curb, gutter & sidewalk, pavement rehabilitation, Ayala Park entrance improvements, traffic signal improvements, and pedestrian accessibility improvements as part of the College Park ultimate Improvement Project through end of summer 2023.


Philadelphia Avenue from Benson Avenue to Town Square

Full Closure of westbound lanes beginning January 11, 2023 through February 17, 2023 for the installation of a storm drain and other wet utilities as part of the construction of the Chino Villas Assisted Living and Memory Care center. Closure will be in effect 24 hours a day and work will take place from 7:00am-7:00pm.



Schaefer Avenue from East End to Euclid Avenue

Minor lane closures to wrap up the rest of the striping work on Schaefer Ave through the end of January. Work occur be between 8:00AM and 4:00 PM.


PRESERVE ROAD IMPROVEMENTS



Bickmore Avenue from Euclid Avenue to Quality/Mayhew (UPDATE)

Full Closure in both directions beginning November 9 through late February 2023 for sewer and storm drain improvements as a condition of the Alere development Detour route will be east on Kimball and south on Rincon Meadows. The reopen date has been extended due to inclement weather.

 

Looking Ahead: After full closure is completed, additional public improvements will be ongoing and may include temporary lane reductions.



Kimball Avenue from Euclid Avenue to Rincon Meadows 

Expect intermittent lane closures with at least one lane open at all times. Still to come: New traffic signals at Quality Way and Fire Station #63, may require occasional day-time lane closures.



Merrill Avenue from Euclid Avenue to Carpenter Avenue

City of Ontario development related improvements to widen Merrill to 4-lanes. Work expected to be completed by end of 2023.



Pine Avenue from West Preserve Loop to Homecoming Drive

Pine Avenue will be reduced to one lane in both directions between West Preserve Loop and Homecoming Drive for the duration of the project. Additionally, access to East Preserve Loop south of Pine will be closed for the duration of the project. Motorists may notice periodic reconfigurations and K-Rail as the project progresses. Access will remain one lane in both directions.


Detours: Residents of The Preserve can take Kimball as an alternate route. Eastvale residents are encouraged to take Archibald north to Merrill. Residents south of Pine can use Market Street to Hellman, additionally, Legacy Park St is now opened and available as an alternate route. Truck traffic will be diverted to Merrill. 

Chino and Montclair Area Overlay Project

Chino and Montclair areas for pavement rehabilitation. (click on map for full notice)

The County of San Bernardino Department of Public Works is beginning the Chino & Montclair Area Overlay Project. The project will include overlaying the roads with various resurfacing treatments to improve the look and driving experience.


This work will be performed between September 2022 and April 2023. Normal working hours will be between the hours of 7:00 A.M. and 4:30 P.M. Monday through Friday.


There will be “No Parking Signs” posted indicating the specific dates work will be performed on the street. During working hours, access to the public will be limited. In an effort to keep residents, crews and property safe, please follow these guidelines:

1. Do not park your vehicles on the roadway

2. Do not allow water to run on the roadway

3. Do not allow children to play in the roadway

4. Do not place trash cans or other debris on the roadway
