2017 Road Season Off and Riding

The 2017 Road Season got off to a great start on Saturday, with an unseasonably warm and frostbiteless Frostbite TT. Hell, most people didn't even wear gloves, as temperatures soared into the 60's. Shown above is the rider who must have the greatest name in Colorado cycling (unless your name is Merckx), Giancarlo Bianchi. As the lead rider off for the day, he is shown taking the absolute first pedal stroke in competition this year. Congratulations go out to Jonathan Freter and Julie Emmerman, whose 22:26 and 24:23,  respectively, were the fastest male and female times on the day.

And since racing is back on, so are the surveys. Race Directors and BRAC really do read these to help us understand participation trends and to help make races better. So, if you went to the Frostbite TT, or even if you didn't and want to tell us why, please take a few seconds to fill out the racer survey. Thank you.

Sunday saw some full fields out at City Park for the Annual DU Criterium. There were 18 credits-worth of collegiate events during the morning, followed by six exciting USAC races in the afternoon. Let's congratulate the following riders who started off their Colorado Collegiate season with podium finishes:

Men A -- 1. Arne Egner (CMU), 2. Noah Granigan (CU), 3. George Simpson (CSU)
Men B -- 1. Austin Hinson (CU), 2. Derek Hall (AFA), 3. Malik Mariano (FLC)
Men C -- 1. Michael Morton (CU), 2. Nevin Whittemore (CU), 3. Zackary Ghalayini (FLC)
Women A -- 1. Ariane Horbach (CMU), 2. Hayley Bates (CC), 3. Natalia Franco (CMU)
Women B -- 1. Ellen Campbell (FLC), 2. Erin Paradis (CSU), 3. Madeleine Hanley (CSM)
Women C -- 1. Cassie Cohen (CC), 2. Nicholle MacKeen (AFA), 3. Megan Osteen (UNC)

If you took part in City Park and would like to comment, or even if you didn't, please take a moment to fill out the racer survey. Thank you.

"What?" I hear you cry. That's right, we are telling you about a different  type of race. One of the take home messages from the USAC summit is that their mission statement is changing to be more inclusive of all forms of cycling, including disciplines and levels not previously considered. Barry Lee is hosting a cool (ha, see what I did there?) event up in the mountains, and we will be there, hopefully not also becoming frozen dead guys. Come check it out

Another classic set of races up in Fort Collins with the Cobb Lake RR and the Oval Criterium. If you do a sporting event in Fort Collins, from cycling, to running, to belly dancing, at some point you will finish on the CSU oval. It has a rich history of sports. Not to mention, Fort Collins boasts the largest number of restaurants per capita (or is it per square meter) in the country. In addition to the full boat of collegiate events, there are five non-collegiate USAC categories. Check it out. For more info, see the flyer

Given the date, we can only imagine what will happen at this race. My "Stewie the evil genius" mind just goes crazy thinking about the possibilities on April Fools day. This is the second Cup race of the year, and the first criterium, this one put on by Without Limits, so you certainly won't want to miss the fun. For more info, see the flyer. Registration is now open! Click here to register.

Colorado School of Mines returns with this annual event. In addition to the full gamut of collegiate events, there are five non-collegiate USAC categories. For more, see the flyer.

Come on out to Cherry Creek Reservoir and get your mid-week fix. They have a new and streamlined registration process, and will have tech support as always. They have some new sponsors also donating prizes to the overall winners, and Ryan Muncy will be out every week taking photos of your efforts. Click here for more info.
