Road Show 13 Report

THE EZ ROAD SHOW. . . It will help take you to your destiny!

Each Road Show has its unique memory. THIS ONE! MMMMMMM . . . so-so-so many. The one that stands out actually is WHO was on the charter carrier and WHO put them on the "Mobile Classroom." This was a COMMUNITY CLASSROOM effort spearheaded by GOing2COLLEGEisEZ.

Community Classroom is a collaborative effort of ministries and nonprofits and for profits that strategically use values-based holistic curricula to serve campuses. Let's Make a Difference (LMAD), which is composed of several Churches, Non-profit and ministries, has targeted the effort of addressing the effort of "Dismantling the School to Prison Pipeline."

This college tour begins to bite into the 23504 Zip Code, which leads the nation in incarceration per capita. Norfolk leads the state in out of school suspensions, a precursor to $170,000 per youth detained in a detention facility. This is a community focal point, not a school focal point only; hence, the "Community Classroom".

But the Achievers are also coming out of 23504 as seen in Booker T. Washington's Ayana Askew, who was last year's Valedictorian. She was also a Gate's Scholar Recipient and a 2022 Presidential Scholar Recipient. We have work to do but there's a lot of GREAT work being done. The Road Show is only one of many efforts taking serious root.

Joining LMAD, others that invested in the effort to mobilize this "Mobile Classroom" for the thirteenth tour: Bibbs Firm/Sylver Strategies, YOURS Ministries, Metropolitan Baptist Church (Suffolk), Booker T. Washington High School, Ruffner Middle School, Collinswood-Agape Baptist Church (Portsmouth), YESUSA Transformational Cities and a host of sponsors.

We are grateful to all who sponsored our scholars. Over 90% of seats were underwritten by the community. You are applauded for not spilling the milk but choosing to clean up the spilled milk. Thank you so much!
