IMPORTANT REMINDER: County road funding deadline is Oct. 15!

The deadline for counties to submit their road projects for consideration under the County Priority Projects Program (CPPP) is less than two weeks away. This is an entirely new program passed during the 2024 legislative session. Any road funding requests counties may have made prior to July 1 will need to be resubmitted to the transportation cabinet. This is in addition to Flex Funding or any other road/bridge funding program.

Cleanup and repairs continue in wake of Hurricane Helene

Nine Kentucky counties – Boyd, Boyle, Clay, Greenup, Harlan, Lee, Magoffin, Owsley and Wolfe – declared written states of emergency in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, the category 4 storm that caused historic, catastrophic damage across the southeastern United States.



According to the National Weather Service, Helene made landfall late Thursday, Sept. 26. By midday Friday, wind gusts up to 65 miles per hour were reported across Kentucky.

First medical cannabis business license awarded in Kentucky

A Jessamine County hemp testing lab has been issued the state’s first medical cannabis business license. Gov. Andy Beshear recently announced that KCA Labs has been named a cannabis Safety Compliance Facility, which is responsible for testing medical cannabis products.

By the numbers: County-owned bridges in Kentucky

According to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) National Bridge Inventory, counties own and maintain 5,051 bridges – 35% of the nearly 15,000 bridges in Kentucky.

KPHRA Fall Workshop Oct. 25 at KACo

The Kentucky Public Human Resources Association (KPHRA) Fall Workshop will be Oct. 25 at the KACo office in Frankfort.


Session topics include Artificial Intelligence in the Workplace, the Kentucky Retirement Plan, Common HR Laws and Regulations, Medicinal Cannabis Use and Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) compliance.
