Roadway Safety Action Plan Launches

The Town of Herndon is taking a big step toward safer streets with our new Roadway Safety Action Plan, a community-driven effort to eliminate all roadway fatalities and serious injuries within the next 12 years. Supported by a $400,000 federal grant, this plan will prioritize projects that make our streets safer for everyone—pedestrians, bicyclists, drivers, and transit riders.

We want to hear from you about your experience with Herndon’s roadways. Take our survey at www.herndon-va.gov/RSAP or Visit us at one of our upcoming pop-up events:

Grass being fertilized

Avoid Using Too Much Fertilizer

The town’s Department of Public Works advises that using too much fertilizer or other lawn care products can cause water pollution through runoff in local waterbodies and the Chesapeake Bay. Perform a soil test to determine proper fertilizer application rates, and please use non-toxic products, slow release, or organic fertilizers.

Only rain down the drain

Only Rain Down the Drain

An illicit discharge is any discharge to the storm drainage system that is not rain. If you see an illicit discharge in the storm drainage system- yard refuse, gas, grease, oil spills - please report it to the town at publicworks@herndon-va.gov or 703-435-6860.

Pay Residential Parking Permits Online

Certain neighborhoods in town require a residential parking permit for curbside parking. If your vehicle will be parked on the street between 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, within a designated permit zone, you must apply for and display a valid permit.

To make the process easier, we've introduced a new online payment option. Residents can now apply for and pay for their parking permits conveniently through our online payment portal.
