Mack Trucks Expands its Roanoke County Facility

On February 9, Governor Glenn Youngkin announced Mack Trucks’ $14.5 million investment to expand operations in Roanoke County. The project involves adding 70,000 square feet to their existing facility, aiming to enhance capacity for both their medium-duty truck line and a new medium-duty electric truck line. This expansion is set to create 51 new jobs, showcasing the company's commitment to growth and innovation. Learn more

The County is a natural fit for Marvin as the company's dedication to supporting local initiatives and ensuring employee well-being aligns with the community values here. Their strategic location, particularly the proximity to I-81, facilitates efficient distribution operations and allows Marvin to tap into a skilled local workforce, enhancing their manufacturing capabilities.


Marvin attributes a part of its success to support from Roanoke County Economic Development, Virginia Western Community College’s corporate training, and the Greater Roanoke Workforce Development Board. These partnerships have enhanced the skills of their workforce and opened doors to training grants, reinforcing the region’s commitment to nurturing local businesses.


Beyond manufacturing excellence, Marvin contributes to the local economy by providing stable employment opportunities at competitive wages. Their philanthropic initiatives, like partnering with Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley and supporting various organizations like The Rescue Mission of Roanoke and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Virginia, showcase Marvin's dedication to our community.

Innovation Commercialization Assistance Program

The Innovation Commercialization Assistance Program (ICAP), a program of the Virginia SBDC and George Mason University, is focused on helping technology and innovation-driven startups during their entire commercialization journey - from ideation through funding and scaling. This is accomplished through one-on-one advising and experiential learning programs with a mentor team of experienced entrepreneurs. These services are offered at no cost and all advising is confidential. Since 2018, ICAP has worked with almost 1400 entrepreneurs who have raised over $175M from angel investors, VC groups, SBIRs, and other grants.
