Roanoke County Reports Five Year Economic Growth
The Department of Economic Development's latest report shows steady economic growth over the past five years, with redevelopment projects leading the charge in transforming the area's vacant and underutilized space into thriving business opportunities.

A notable project that exemplifies this growth is Metis Holdings' $6 million investment to redevelop the former Allstate facility (below) into a multi-tenant facility in the Oak Grove area, which has welcomed several new tenants in the building and looks to bring up to 600 jobs at the location.

Other notable developments include:
  • The Town of Vinton opened a new Macado's in the former Vinton Library in December, with an investment of $1 million.
  • The former William Byrd High School is being redeveloped into an 82-unit modern apartment building with an investment of $12 million.
  • Blue Ridge Beverage invested $2.5 million in a 40,000 square foot expansion to be completed in fall 2019.
  • Tru by Hilton Hotel invested $8 million to bring 82 new hotel rooms and 30 new jobs to Roanoke County.
  • Valley Star Credit Union opened a new 5,000 square foot facility bringing $1.4 million in investment.
Altogether, Roanoke County has welcomed more than 2,100 new jobs in the past five years with thanks to new projects that brought in $290 million in investments and $3.2 million in direct property sales.
