Roaring through the Month
Save the date for Bengal Family Weekend 2022 - September 30-October 2
What is Bengal Family Weekend? One weekend a year in the fall we invite all parents, partners, and family members of our Idaho State students to come and join their students on our Pocatello campus for a weekend of fun, food, and Bengal life at Bengal Family Weekend. This year, we will be welcoming you to campus on the weekend of Friday, September 30-Sunday, October 2. What can you do while you’re here? Well, if you’re looking for a way to get outdoors or burn some calories, you and your student might tackle the Disc Golf course, the Challenge Course with its climbing tower and giant swing, the fitness center (free admission!), or a hike to the iconic columns on Red Hill. Just need to wind down and play a little? How about free bowling or billiards at the Games Center, tie-dying t-shirts at the Craft Center, catching a movie or a play on campus, or (annual crowd favorite) joining us for Bingo in the Ballroom. You won’t go hungry either. The smells of barbecue will greet you as you roll into the parking lot for check-in Friday evening. Saturday’s options will include the annual pre-football game tailgate and a Sunday brunch with your student at Turner Hall. Ready for some noise? Join the BFW team at the Saturday football game or catch one of our other weekend athletic events. Also, explore our Pocatello community eateries and other businesses with BFW member discounts and incentives. We’ll have a lot packed into the weekend, ready for you to choose your great Bengal Family experiences! Watch for more details, coming soon
A temporary ISU Mail Center closure is scheduled for March 31-April 1.
Due to scheduled equipment maintenance, the ISU Mail Center will close at 12 noon on Thursday, March 31, 2022. During this time, the Mail Center will be unable to process any outgoing mail from individuals or departments. The service counter will also be closed to customers. If you are expecting a high priority package such as medication or perishable items, please contact the Mail Center at mailcntr@isu.edu to make pickup arrangements. The Mail Center will return to normal operations Friday, April 1, 2022.
Would your student like to be paid to sit through a lecture?
The Department of Psychology is looking for people over the age of 18 to come in and watch a lecture and then answer a few questions about the video. This will be followed with a few cognitive tests and a survey. The study should take an hour to an hour-and-a-half to complete, and participants will be paid $5 for every half hour of their time. If interested, please contact our lab at fulton.cognition.lab@gmail.com. This opportunity will remain open until the grant funds are expended or the end of the spring semester.
Does your student feel stressed out? Check out these helpful options.
Every Friday through April 29, 12:15 - 12:45 p.m.
Online via Zoom

Upon registration, you will be emailed a Zoom link that will enable you to participate.
There is no better time to start a meditation practice than now! Meditation is an evidence-based practice for stress management, improving focus, and improving overall health. The demanding times in which we are living provide yet another reason to begin this wellness practice. No experience necessary, it’s free, and all are welcome! Online Mindfulness Meditation is open to all students, staff, and faculty.

April ReST Resilience Training
Tuesdays, April 5-26, 1:00-2:00 p.m.
Student Recreation Center conference room (room #264), Pocatello campus

Everyone needs resilience, which is not about overcoming but becoming. ReST is a 4-week curriculum that offers a careful selection of evidence-based exercises to build resilience skills and promote thriving. ReST is based on the philosophy that there are many routes to achieving greater resiliency, and it is important for participants to find what works for them. Each week participants choose what they would like to practice from a menu of six exercises in the areas of goal-setting, emotional skills, social connection, health, meaning, and self-talk. The March session is in progress, but students can still register for ReST Resiliency Training Group for the April 5-26 session.
Group for Survivors of Suicide Loss
Meets monthly, on the 2nd Thursday of each month through June 9, 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Online via Zoom - RSVP Required

Losing a loved one to suicide can be a profoundly painful and isolating experience. The complexity of the emotions can feel overwhelming and often survivors struggle to know who to talk to for fear others won't understand. This group offers an opportunity to engage in discussion designed to help participants gain greater understanding and support. For questions please contact Rick at rickpongratz@isu.edu or by phone at (208) 282-2130, and see our Connections Groups flyer for other support opportunities offered by Counseling & Testing.
