Zane Bennett Contemporary Art is pleased to announce an exhibition of Robert Dean Stockwell’s dice installations. The artist will be present at the opening on Friday, June 28 at the gallery, 435 South Guadalupe Street, across from the rail station, from 5:00-7:00 pm. to coincide with the Railyard Arts District Last Friday Art Walk.
In "Pyramid Table," four pyramids sit on a long table, three of them are made of black and white dice and the fourth and smallest pyramid has been gilded. The table is a Frank Lloyd Wright design that has been skirted in velvet. The luminous gold pyramid seems to glow in contrast to the black and white ones and adds as a mysterious air to the installation.
A constructed chair sits on top of a platform with stairs leading up to it in the "Throne." A figure stands below and we are left to wonder if the figure is a sentinel or the person who sits on the throne. Stockwell gives us a chance to ponder what it would mean to sit on a throne.
After 70 years as a stage, film and television actor, Stockwell captures the magic of the theater with his theater works. "MultiColored Theater" delights the eye with tiny objects that inhabit the stage. A silver figure juggles three large balls in the air drawing us in to explore the staircase with angels descending. In this work it is possible to think of the theater as a staircase to heaven.

Stockwell was involved with Wallace Berman's art group, The Semina Circle in southern California from 1956-1975. In 2004 Stockwell turned his focus to making art, exhibiting in group and solo shows on a national level.
