How long have you been in the Chamber profession
4 years as President/CEO and 30+ as a volunteer
How long have you been in your current position
4 years
What do you love most about your job?
I think what I love most about Chamber work is the balance and the variety. One moment you might be working on a communication issue, and then the phone rings and you become an economic development specialist, and then you attend a meeting where you might need to be an expert in education or transportation or some community revitalization issue.
Aside from colleagues at your Chamber, which Chamber Executive has had the biggest impact on your career and how?
Probably, as I think back over the years, I would call-out Cliff Jones and Pete Loedding. Both Cliff and Pete have passed on now, but they were trusted mentors to and for me as my professional career was just beginning. They were respected Chamber leaders and very good friends.
What is your Chamber's signature event?
Our Annual Meeting immediately comes to mind. However, we try to host events on a monthly basis that would rise to the definition of "signature." Without a doubt, my favorite events are our Farm-to-Fork/Farm-to-Glass dinners that we bring together several times per year and the Legislative Breakfasts that we host along with the Central PA Chamber.
What is your favorite destination outside of the one you represent and why?
My home is in Chester County, so anytime that my family and I can spend time in the southeastern corner of our state, we jump at the opportunity.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A construction worker. By the way, before coming to the Chamber I worked for several decades at PennDOT, mostly in construction.
Why is PACP important to you?
As a relatively new member, I'm actively soaking up every resource that PACP has to offer. I came home from the recent Annual Chamber Professionals & Leadership Conference with a dozen pages of notes and two big bags stuffed with materials. Learning the ins-and-outs of Chamber management from other professionals is hugely important to me.
