Medical School to Get New Education Building in New Brunswick
Dear faculty, residents, staff and students:

It gives me great pride to share with you the historic announcement made earlier today: that Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School will be the beneficiary of a new building to house medical education in downtown New Brunswick, allowing for a cohesive training program that will bring our students in close proximity to our clinical enterprise and principal teaching hospital. Announced by Governor Phil Murphy, the Innovation and Technology Hub will be in the heart of the city, where medical educators, researchers and our partners in health care, education, and industry can work together leading the state to become the nation's premier developer of biomedical investigations, treatment and technologies.

"Innovation is in our state's DNA," said Governor Murphy during the event. "When completed, the Hub will represent a total investment of $665 million in the areas of innovation, translational research and medical education. It will contain not only much needed lab space but much needed incubator space. It will be a place where doctors and researchers work shoulder to shoulder on innovative treatments and solutions from bench to bedside."
Governor Murphy was joined at today's groundbreaking by Rutgers President Jonathan Holloway, RWJBarnabas Health President and CEO Barry Ostrowsky, along with partners from Princeton University, Hackensack Meridian Health, Middlesex County, and the city of New Brunswick.

“The project announced today has the potential to be the most meaningful and profound investment this state has ever made in translational research that will take innovation and discovery from the bench to the bedside,” said Holloway. “This investment will fuel the kind of innovation that unleashes the combined power of one of America’s greatest public research universities with industry and other academic partners to disrupt and to transform the state and regional economies.”
President Holloway thanked Gov. Murphy for his commitment to the project and noted that the HUB is “ambitious and aggressive. It is fundamental to how we will deliver knowledge and make discoveries. It will revolutionize the ways that we will provide health care and medicine in the future. It will embody the excellence that I see all around me at Rutgers.”

Mr. Ostrowsky said, "Rutgers University and in particular, the Rutgers Health assets, have become an incredibly integral partner to the success of our mission. For those of us in health care, innovation and translational research is critical. The communities we serve deserve the latest technique and technology; insight; education; and practice that can be developed in this hub."
"It means the smartest minds, the people motivated to do best, are getting together to produce a service and a product that will help all of us live better lives, " added Mr. Ostrowsky. "We can not wait for this hub to open; for the collaboration to take place among all of the partners; for the product of that which we are going to invest in. For everyone in this community, the greater region and the United States, this hub will serve as a clear indication that the state of New Jersey and its participants are leaders in taking care of those in our communities."

According to news reports, "The first phase of the Hub project will include two buildings that combine to total approximately 580,000 square feet. One building, totaling approximately 170,000 square feet, will be a new state-of-the-art facility for the medical school, including classrooms, faculty offices, simulation labs — and everything else associated with a modern medical school. It will represent a much-needed update for the school."

Our students and residents will benefit from modern simulation labs, anatomy labs and an environment that promotes collaboration and innovation in all areas of health care. The location across from the New Brunswick train station, between Paterson and French Streets, will physically align our pre-clinical and clinical education curriculum.

On behalf of the medical school community, we are proud to be a partner in this dynamic endeavor and look forward to educating our future medical students with leading-edge technologies in conjunction with our colleagues across the state.
