PRESCHOOL NEWS AND HAPPENINGS

My name is Jeane-Marie Cavanaugh. I have been hired as the next director of Shadow Rock

Preschool. I am originally from Detroit, but have made my home in Moon Valley since I was a

teenager. I have been married for over 20 years and have 2 wonderful children.

My journey at Shadow Rock Preschool began when I enrolled my children 15 years ago. Since

that day, I have been a parent volunteer, substitute teacher and currently, the lead teacher of

the Pre-K Unicorns classroom. As the new director of Shadow Rock Preschool, I will be

committed to the school’s experiential, play based philosophies and will champion messy, child-

led process art. Neuroscience research shows that hands on, messy play builds more pathways

through a child’s brain than traditional worksheets, rote learning or adult led crafts. Shadow

Rock Preschool values emergent curriculum. We know that when children are encouraged to

explore and seek answers to their own questions, life long learners are created. I am honored

to be the next director of Shadow Rock Preschool- a place where everyone is welcome, and

children are unique and unrepeatable.

Transition Team Mission Statement

The scope of their work is to oversee the process of moving Shadow Rock UCC into an organizational model that is sustainable and adaptive, with the motivation that the preservation and promotion of our core values, vision, and mission are key to the survival and thriving of Shadow Rock.

Thank you, Transition Team

Shadow Rock Work Morning April 6. Boy Scout Troop 426 joins us for Work Morning.

Please join us for a morning of clean-up and fix-up for our campus, April 6. We will begin at 8 am and end before noon. Feel free to join us anytime in the morning.

The projects include creating a drainage path, cleaning/blowing sidewalks, cleaning the patio, and some tree trimming. Some light work and some heavier work. Something for everyone!

New Time for Loveseed!

Loveseed is Shadow Rock at North Mountain Brewery. It is also affectionately and unofficially referred to as "Beer Church". We meet the first Sunday of every month but the time has changed. THE NEW TIME IS 5 PM!

On April 7th we will continue our discussion of Richard Rohr's book, The Naked Now.

Also, the owners of NMB are going to give us their back room called "The Barrel Room". This will help us facilitate our discussion. Thank you North Mountain Brewery!

ONE OF THE BENEFITS OF BEING PART OF THE WIDER CHURCH IS THE BOOK STUDY OFFERED BELOW

The Decentering Whiteness Taskforce of the Southwest Conference UCC is excited to co-sponsor this training series along with the AFN Theological Dialogue Commission, AFN Cherishing Creation Coalition, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Arizona.

Beginning on Monday, April 22, Arizona Faith Network and the Coalition to Dismantle the Doctrine of Discovery will host a 5-week training series that will guide us into stepping into solidarity and building relationships with Indigenous people. Created by Coalition co-founder Sarah Augustine and co-facilitated by Sarah and Repair Network Organizer Doe Hoyer, examples of skills to be learned are: identifying and questioning dominant culture assumptions, identifying needs and how to meet them, and reflective practice.

This course counts toward the anti-racism training requirement for clergy (MUST ATTEND ALL FIVE SESSIONS!).

The deadline to register is April 15. Register here. Please choose the $50 registration as the Southwest Conference is co-sponsoring the event.

WE ARE RECRUITING FOR ART SHOW 2024!

If you want to be part of the art show leadership contact the church office. At this time, the church staff is gathering information and collecting names of interested persons.

We want to have our team in place by March 31st.
