Rock the Week

7 December 2022

This Week at Shadow Rock

Sunday morning Spiritual Formation is at 9:00 am for EVERYONE in the Multipurpose Room. This week and December 18 will be multi-age gatherings, with opportunities to explore different aspects of the Christmas story. Simple crafts will keep our hands busy as we share our experiences of Advent.

It's a Sermon Reboot week after worship this coming Sunday.

It's Time... For Advent Joy

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

  • Christmas Eve worship will be at 5:00 pm on Saturday, December 24. Childcare is available during this service. It's time to invite friends and neighbors to join you for music, candlelighting, and joy!
  • Christmas Morning worship will be at 10:15 am on Sunday, December 25. Festive attire and pajamas are all welcome.

Our Whole Lives For the Community

Shadow Rock will be offering Our Whole Lives comprehensive, values-based human sexuality education beginning in January 2023. This offering is for junior high and senior high youth, with groups for 7th grade through 12th grade. Please reach out to your friends and neighbors to let them know about this nationally known program that's led jointly by the United Church of Christ and the Unitarian Universalist Association.

Information sessions are December 7 and 8. This is a great time to learn more and ask questions. For more information about Shadow Rock's OWL Program, please email Karen. To learn more about OWL's values and vision, check out their digital home!

Celebration of Life for Greg Rampley

Our community gathers with the Rampley family to celebrate Greg's life of love and service on Saturday, December 17 at 2:00 pm in the Shadow Rock sanctuary. A reception of ice cream and cookies will follow in Smith Hall.

We will have a Zoom option for the service, but it will not be shared publicly. Please email Karen if you would like the link.

As December unfolds, we hold in love and care everyone who loved Greg.

Looking Ahead to 2023

Small bits of news for your January 2023 planning...

We have some new people in the pews! Pastor Ken will host "Let's Find Out," an opportunity to learn more about Shadow Rock, on January 15 immediately following worship in the Narthex.

Also, Epiphany is the church season that follows Christmastide. It's a time when we're asked to consider the different ways that Mystery and Wholeness are revealed to us. As part of that experience, we will be exploring different understandings and different practices of prayer during worship. To help us prepare (and to get your own mind moving in that direction), you're invited to participate in a couple of online polls, the first of which is below.

Do you think prayer can ever be dangerous?
Yes, in a good way.
Yes, in a harmful way.
No
I've never considered this, and I'm intrigued.
I've never considered this, and I'm not really interested.
