Rock the Week

14 December 2022

This Week at Shadow Rock

Sunday morning Spiritual Formation is at 9:00 am for EVERYONE in the Multipurpose Room. It's our last week together in 2022! We're doing it all: a look at the different Nativity narratives in Matthew and Luke, discussion of our Advent and Christmas experiences, and simple crafts to keep us busy as we share.

The worship theme is The Way Home. May we all hear the word our hearts are seeking!

It's a Sermon Reboot week after worship this coming Sunday.

Christmas - and Beyond!

  • Christmas Eve worship will be at 5:00 pm on Saturday, December 24. Childcare is available during this service.
  • Christmas Morning worship will be at 10:15 am on Sunday, December 25. Festive attire and pajamas are all welcome.
  • Spiritual Formation and Sermon Reboot are on hiatus on Christmas Day and New Year's Day, but will return at 9 o'clock on January 8.
  • On January 15, Pastor Ken will host Let's Find Out, an informal discussion with new folks who are considering membership or deeper involvement with the Shadow Rock community. Email Ken for all the details!
  • As we celebrate, we also acknowledge that generosity and care make the work of our congregation possible. Our fiscal year is ending soon; year-end contributions must be postmarked by December 31. Also, if you would like to communicate your decisions regarding 2023 giving, click here for an estimate of giving card.

Our Whole Lives For the Community

Shadow Rock will be offering Our Whole Lives comprehensive, values-based human sexuality education beginning in January 2023. This offering is for junior high and senior high youth, with groups for 7th grade through 12th grade. Please reach out to your friends and neighbors to let them know about this nationally known program that's led jointly by the United Church of Christ and the Unitarian Universalist Association.

Our Whole Lives values are congruent with Shadow Rock's values: self-worth, sexual health, responsibility, and justice & inclusion.

For more information about Shadow Rock's OWL Program, please email Karen. To learn more about OWL's values and vision, check out their digital home!

Celebration of Life for Greg Rampley This Saturday

Our community gathers with the Rampley family to celebrate Greg's life of love and service on Saturday, December 17 at 2:00 pm in the Shadow Rock sanctuary. A reception of ice cream and cookies will follow in Smith Hall.

We will have a Zoom option for the service, but it will not be shared publicly. Please email Karen if you would like the link.

As December unfolds, we hold in love and care everyone who loved Greg.

Looking Ahead to 2023

Epiphany is the church season that follows Christmastide. It's a time when we're asked to consider the different ways that Mystery and Wholeness are revealed to us. As part of that experience, we will be exploring different understandings and different practices of prayer during worship. To help us prepare (and to get your own mind moving in that direction), you're invited to participate in a couple of online polls. Be reassured, friends - all answers are good answers. In none of these poll questions is any judgement. You are enough.

On a scale of 1-5, how is your prayer life in this season?
5 - very satisfying, rich and joyful
4 - overall good
3 - meh; sometimes I struggle
2 - I don't often find meaning and connection in prayer.
1 - unsatisfying or non-existent
