SHADOW ROCK SEEK AND FIND
Our photo scavenger hunt is so fun! Last week's first correct guess was Colby Rampley, who not only identified the doors to the Chapel, but added that the stained glass was originally part of the doors into Smith Hall, our first worship space.

More challenging pictures are coming up! Guess the location of this week's photo. Be the first to correctly identify what's in the photo and be recognized in the following week's Rock the Week.Submit your guess by clicking the button on the left.
Our Whole Lives
It's Our Whole Lives time and we're beginning to prepare classrooms for our 22 junior high and senior high youth.
Who doesn't want to support that? You are invited to help re-stock our cupboard with these items:
  • Condoms (any variety)
  • Lubricant (water or silicone based)
  • Empty contraceptive packaging (birth control pill blister pack and similar)
  • Latex dams (the kind used in dental offices)
  • Copier paper
  • Whiteboard markers and sharpies
  • Index cards (any variety)

Bring your in-kind donation to the Shadow Rock office or deliver to Karen.
Compassion in Action:
This Week at the Welcome Center
Our neighbors at First UCC Phoenix are asking for assistance! They are short on volunteers this coming Saturday at the Welcome Center. If you've been wanting to lend a hand to new immigrants and refugees, this is a fantastic chance to get acclimated with some seasoned folks from First Church Phoenix.

Please prayerfully consider your response and reach out to volunteer lead Jane McNamara for all the details.
A Woman's Place... Herstory
Mark your calendars! We'll be screening Herstory on Sunday, August 29 at 3:00 pm in Smith Hall. Herstory is a musical tour of women and work in the United States, written by Marilyn Rampley and David Wo and directed by Forrest Bachtel. It was produced in 1985 and then refreshed and produced again in 2004.

Fall Small Group Coming Soon
Wands at the ready!

Writing and meditation can bring creativity magic into our lives. This fall's small group is 'Breathe, Write." We'll write and meditate together, but not polished perfection for publication. Instead we'll allow words and breath to energize and deepen one another. We’ll gather for an hour, first sharing a time of meditation and reflection then writing what’s on our minds and hearts. No experience in writing or meditation is needed.

We'll gather online at 7 pm, beginning on September 13 and will continue for six weeks (ending October 18). Email Karen to get the Zoom link!
Sacred Sites Interest Meeting
Rev. Gene Lefebvre and Tom Batson are planning a series of day trips to sacred sites in Arizona. Please come to a gathering in the Multipurpose Room on Sunday, August 29, at 11:15 am. We want to give an overview of the program, recruit trip leaders, and measure the level of interest. If you are interested but cannot attend, please email Pastor Ken.

Sacred Sites is intended to be a multi-generational experience with diverse levels of physical activity. All levels of adventuresome spirit are welcomed.

For an example of the kind of connection between nature and spirituality that we're seeking, see this reflection from Peg Heintzelman.

Preschool Playground Workday
The start of school and monsoon season have combined to generate a lot of necessary work on our fantastic playground. Saturday, August 18 beginning at 7 :00 am, you're invited to roll up your sleeves and help make our playground ready for energetic and playful preschoolers. Bring a shovel and a can-do attitude!
DEATH IN THE CONGREGATION
We're saddened to share the news of Nordeen 'Butchie' Decker's death on August 15. We will certainly miss her smile and friendliness at worship. Her family is making plans for a memorial service, and details will be shared when they're available. In the meantime, please hold Butchie's family in your thoughts and prayers.
SERVICE TIMES FOR OUR FAMILY
colorful-flowers.jpg
Shadow Rock is imbedded in our community so it's natural and right that, over time, we claim this part of the Phoenix Valley as our own. In that spirit, we want to make sure you're aware of a couple of upcoming Celebrations of Life in our sanctuary.
  • Shadow Rock Preschool teacher Carol Bowles' service is this coming Saturday at 10:00 am. The family has asked that memorial gifts be directed to Shadow Rock Preschool. Carol was a beloved part of SRPS since 2007, and our prayers for her family continue.
  • Longtime Moon Valley teacher Donna Hicks will be remembered on August 28 at 6:15 pm.
It's a blessing for our community to be able to be a supportive and compassionate presence in times of grief and transition.
