ROCK THE WEEK
February 3, 2021
Nature on the SRUCC Campus
Facilities volunteer extraordinaire Bill Peterson spotted this beautiful kitty last week! What a blessing to have our buildings surrounded by wildlife. We don't expect this visitor to hang around permanently, but keep your eyes peeled when you visit. Thanks for sharing this moment, Bill.
This Week Online
Wednesday (2/3): Connections Count on Zoom at 7:00 pm
This mid-week opportunity to listen and share is a highlight for many who participate. We share celebrations and prayer requests; we listen and hold space for one another. Everyone is welcome for this time of connection. Click here at 7:00 to participate.

Thursday (2/4): Thursday Spirituality
This week, look for a special edition of Thursday Spirituality live on the Shadow Rock Facebook page. This week, we'll be doing a brief outdoor breathing exercise.

Monday (2/8): Small Group Ministry
Our small group ministry for Season of Nonviolence 2021 is a beginner-level exploration of compassionate communication (sometimes called non-violent communication). This week, our focus will be offering and receiving empathy. Click here on Monday at 7:00 pm to join.

Sunday, February 7
10:00 am Adult Spiritual Formation is on Zoom. Start your Sunday with the link in the worship email. With just a few weeks left until Lent begins, we have a short series for heading into February: Three Things. We’ll try some quick response writing and sharing around mindfulness and gratitude. Expect a welcoming and lively conversation!

11:00 am Worship continues virtually on Zoom until gathering in person is safe for everyone. Worship is "what we do" together, celebrating and affirming our community and our symbolic life together. This week is full of action with special guest ASU campus ministry staff person, Andrew Ponder Williams, recognition of Scout Sunday, and online DIY communion. No matter how we gather, all are welcome.

Rev. Dr. Patricia StandTal Clarke's sermon last week, American Woman: Two Spirited and Two Nations, sparked much conversation. To continue our learning and formation around anti-racism, look in this spot for articles and reading suggestions from the church staff. This week, check out this article by scholar Tema Okun: White Supremacy Culture.
Happy New Year! Giving statements were sent via email on January 23 and 24 from a temporary email, Heidisrucc@gmail.com. If you haven't seen your statement, please check your spam and trash folders. Contact Heidi if you need a physical statement sent to you via USPS.  Thank you for your continued support of Shadow Rock.
important date
Several events are around the corner! Our next community blood drive will be Sunday, February 28 between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. Appointments are required.

Also coming soon is tax preparation assistance through AARP. Watch Rock the Week for additional information about these events.
Even with the support of family and friends, these times of separation, and all too often grief, challenge us. Sometimes we are tempted by hopelessness or out-of-touch denial. To avoid those extremes, we want to lift up opportunities for gratitude. In case you missed Heidi's Corner on Sunday, click here to read an anonymous note from a donor who gave their stimulus check to the Pastor's Charitable Fund. Our hearts are so thankful. Watch this spot for more gratitude!
The Season of Nonviolence is a stretch of time between the assassination dates of Mahatma Gandhi (January 30) and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King (April 4). During the Season at Shadow Rock, we'll be bundling up worship, small groups, sermon series, and spiritual formation to reflect our core value of justice.

Season of Nonviolence, Part 2, is almost here!
Our 2021 Lenten study will be a Choose-Your-Own Adventure Journey of the Spirit with Sunday morning and weekday options. Lent begins in two short weeks, so stay tuned for all the deets. Don't feel like waiting? For more information or ways to get involved, please email Karen.
Reminders While the Campus is Closed
  • The United States Postal Service is experiencing service delays due to the pandemic. If you are sending mail that needs special attention, please contact Heidi.
  • If you need any assistance securing groceries, medicine or toiletries, please contact us via email. We want to do our best to make sure everyone is safe and well.
  • One of the most important things we can do for each other during this time of isolation and distance is to keep in touch. We're a very social church family, and it's hard to be apart from one another! Try to take time every day or two to call, text, or email one of your Shadow Rock friends.
