~ NEW Spirituality Cafe~
Earlier this month, Rock the Week included information about Spirituality Cafe, a deep-diving discussion group at the Baha'i Center. There is a group of Shadow Rockers exploring the possibility of a similar group here, knowing that for many of us intense and complicated discussions about things that matter are energizing! To give you a flavor for the group, here's a portion of the discussion content for the Baha'i group:

For more than 3000 years, the story of David and Goliath has been told and retold in many forms and shapes. Our culture includes this story as a touchstone: of the underdog defeating a far stronger opponent. In this story, Goliath, a battle-tested champion was surprised to face young, ordinary David. Perhaps everyone has their own Goliath. Who or what is your Goliath?

If you feel inclined to join such a discussion, your input would be welcome. The discussions begin at 9:30 am, Saturdays on Zoom.
Fall Formation - Sundays and Mondays
Fall (especially if our lives in some way are still affected by the start of school) often feels like the time to learn new things. Our first Sunday morning 9 o'clock formation series began last week, with participants in person and on Zoom. We continue through September and October with "Wading Into Theology," a survey of different ways of imagining and describing Spirit. This series is informed by Catholic feminist theologian Elizabeth Johnson's Quest for the Living God. As always, all are welcome, and our experiences and values take the spotlight.

Also, there's still time to join our fall small group on Mondays. Our topic is "Breathe, Write," and includes meditation, silence, and writing practice. This program is Zoom only, which means no commute time! You can join via the button below, Mondays at 7:00 pm. In the meantime, check in with Karen to share your questions.
Serving Immigrants and Refugees - a Shadow Rock Call to Action
We continue to hold in prayer families arriving to the US from Afghanistan. One of these families we are claiming as "ours," by sponsoring their emigration to the United States. This will be rewarding, challenging, and life-giving work. We expect things to move quickly and be highly changeable for the new few weeks.

Your prayers for all families caught in our sometimes capricious and unjust immigration system are always appreciated. Pray, and the prepare with these resources:
What's your civic engagement plan during this season? Even though there is no national election in 2021, there are still issues that call out for our attention and compassion. Shadow Rock is providing space for a petition signing event this coming Sunday, September 19, 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Learn more about what petitions are available here.
